Boiling oil poured on sleeping husband
By RYAN LaFONTAINE

HANCOCK COUNTY - Police are searching for a woman who allegedly dumped a pot of searing-hot cooking oil on her sleeping husband.

"I've been in law enforcement 14 years and that was the worse thing I've ever seen," said Ricky Fayard, lead investigator on the case. "His skin was dripping off of him."

Police believe Edna May Sanders turned on the stove Friday in her Diamondhead home and heated about two quarts of household cooking oil, waited until the grease reached a simmer and her husband was in a sound sleep and then poured it on him, covering his head, face, chest and arms.

"When we got there he was in bad shape; his entire hand, the skin came off, and it looked like a glove," Fayard said.

Authorities said the two have been married only a short time and what led to last week's burning is unclear.

Sanders' husband, whose name has not been released, was airlifted to the burn center at the University of South Alabama in Mobile and treated for third-degree burns. His condition is listed as day-to-day.

Fayard said the man was wearing bluejeans, which may have helped keep his lower body from being burned.

Sanders, whose maiden name is Miller, allegedly fled with the couple's two children.

Hancock investigators have issued a nationwide plea for help in finding Sanders, who faces felony charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence.

Police are asking anyone with information on Sanders' whereabouts to contact the Hancock Sheriff's Department at 467-5101.

The main reason why I never go to sleep after a fight with my wife.

Thats pretty nasty. I've burnt myself pretty bad with a bout a cup of searing hot oil. I can't imagine the pain he went through and he has more to look forward to.

My only question is, what the hell did he do to her to deserve that?

My $$ for her motive is that she caught him cheating on her.

My gut tells me it was child abuse. I don't think I would pour hot oil on a man if he abused my kids, but I'm sure nothing would be more likely to drive a mother to that kind of irrational behavior.

Or, she could just be unable to cope with something minor and completely overreacted.

Whatever actually happened, her defense will be domestic abuse/self-defense. That seldom works when the husband was asleep, though. It's too hard to make a jury understand that she couldn't "just leave".

It's always possible that she's crazy, or just crazy mean.

And and even more intriguing question to me is, how in the world can somebody sleep with bluejeans on?

Good thing that he was I suppose. Just glad it wasn't me. Especially since I sleep with only boxers on.

What a shame. It's normally quite sexy when a girl pours hot oil on you in bed.

Of course he deserved it. Why play a joke like that when she could have just shaved his eyebrows off.

Ah, so it's the temperature of the oil that matters. I'll have to remember that should apply to candle wax too. Smiley: sly

Well, it's not very erotic to have a solid candle dropped on you.

Reminded me of the napalm scene in We Were Soldiers. Where the Asian guy burns his legs and they pull off the skin and flesh when they try to move him.

Probably. I once read about a woman in some eastern European country (Hungary or Romania or something) who RIPPED her husband's ********* off after she found out he had been cheating on her.

Why do they always have to hurt the husband in freaky horror movie ways?

I'm afraid of going to sleep now and I'm not even married.
