Blunt 'worse than a traffic warden'
(Sunday July 30, 2006 08:52 AM)
Singer James Blunt has beaten traffic wardens and noisy neighbours in a list of the things Brits find most annoying, a new poll has revealed.
Blunt, who came fourth in the list of 100 most intolerable things, has been a phenomenal success since he burst on to the music scene last year.
However, the former Army officer has faced a backlash recently, and was banned by radio station Essex FM last month following what it claimed was listener pressure.
The singer had defended his music at an awards ceremony in May by telling his critics to switch over if they did not like his songs. However, the new poll of 2,000 people places Blunt ahead of the likes of traffic wardens and celebrity couple Chantelle and Preston.
The list of 100 pet hates, commissioned by Lactofree, also includes ex-smokers in ninth place, Carol Vorderman at 12 and Americans at 46.
Lactofree's Louise Barton said: "It's the little things that are beyond our control which annoy us the most, like novelty ring tones and noisy eaters."
The study also revealed that women are easier to annoy than men, with more than 80% admitting that little things wind them up easily. Women are also more likely to lash out and lose their temper when their stress levels increase with 73% admitting to it.
The survey also suggested the Victor Meldrew type will not die out, with 33% of men claiming that the older they got, the more irritable, and irritating, they become.
The London Tube aggravated people, but only enough to secure a place at 54 behind Abi Titmuss, men in flip-flops, Big Brother 5 and novelty ring tones.
Lactofree questioned 2,059 people aged 18 and above.
