An issue that has become increasingly alarming...Follow

Ok, I dont know if any of you have noticed, but recently, it seems that everytime a fast food restaurant, or candy-bar manufacturer holds a "contest", there is the same annoying trend.

Lets say you see Pepsi advertising a "check under the cap for your chance to win", so you check under the cap. Instead of getting a "You Win!" comment, or a "Please try again" comment, you get a code of some sort by which you have to go on the product's website, type in the code, THEN see if you win. Is this annoying anyone else as much as it's annoying me? Do they actually expect me to waste my time visiting their website to see if I've won?

Everyone is doing it now... I hope it ends.

It's a good idea profiting wise. That way if they actually won, but they are too lazy to check, it saves them money.

They make more money this way.

1. There are no longer 'buy 1 get 1 free' caps. When you figure how good the chances were of getting them, cost of product, then sale price, it has got to save them a bundle.

2. You go to their site. They generate more traffic then they normally would have which if they are running advertising ads, is good for them.

3. Like said, alot of people don't check them so they have a good chance of that winner just slipping through the cracks. Before you knew if you won as soon as you opened so there was no mistake.

As for does it bother me? I miss my free sodas. I used to get them constantly but other then that I have never won anything but junk which I never claimed anyway. I am not one of those optimistic people that thinks I will win the millions as they are always in some backwoods place that the world never knew excisted till the winner popped up. Place probably payed the company to do it that way for some advertisement.

Not nearly as annoying as the money-back rebates at stores.

I accept that my purchasing habits may not reflect the norm but, if a company is running some "check the code" promotion, their contest makes no impact in my purchase.

In other words, I might potentially upgrade from a small Coke to a medium Coke at McDonald's for an extra Monopoly game piece but I'd never buy a Coke over a Pepsi at the store because one gives me the chance to go online, enter a code and maybe win a free ringtone or something else equally worthless.

Absolutley true! It used to be, if I had to choose between a bottle of coke, or a bottle of pepsi, I would always choose the one with the "look under the cap to win" contests. Now... I could care less.

No doubt, the "rebate" should just be applied to the product directly via lower store price.

This doesn't pertain to the thread but Darkenbudddy da Basher and Rimesume the Shady your avatars match up to a Johnny Cash song I'm listening to right now.

That is all.

I hate any discount, sale, contest that makes you send something in before you see if you won or get your discount. I easily avoid it by just buying a competitors product.

A good example was when I was at Best Buy buying a new graphics card. The guy at Best Buy showed me his two recommended brands and then said one is $15 dollars cheaper after mail in rebate. Since I despise rebates I just bought the other one for $15 dollars more. I do not do this out of being lazy, but in my thinking if your gonna put something on sale why the hell should the consumer need to jump through hoops in order to get the discounted price?

-One reason not mentioned is that then they get your information and you start getting more spam email and junk mail thanks to them selling it out to 3rd party surces.
