Having mono didn't affect my appetite, but the accompanying strep throat did make any ingestion nigh impossible. When I went to the emergency room my throat looked as if I had swallowed a sleeve of golfballs sideways. I only lost five pounds or so, but starting at 125 that was considerable. The hospital pretty much fed me Ensure and baby food the whole time.

Just got the test results back.

Everything was negative, pretty much, including the mono test. They said that my thyroid test came back a little higher than average, which they said was perhaps indicative of a viral infection. Said hypothetical virus could hypothetically be the cause of any fatigue I've been suffering.

The advice was to come back if my symptoms persist, but otherwise, I check out fine enough. I'm happy to get the relatively clean bill of health, but at the same time, it's still left me confused as to why I've been so damned exhausted.

Welcome to the club, Eske Smiley: dubious Sounds like the EBV maybe still there, though not at a level that shows up on standard test.

I hate to suggest you look up illnesses on the internet, but if the Fatigue continues I would google FMS/CFS or ME as the rest of the world seems to call what I have.

EBV is one of the many viruses, that Fibromyalgia / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome suffers mention, when trying to pinpoint why they are ill. The doctors can't find anything wrong with standard tests and it's a battle to get them to take any test that may show anything is wrong.

I came down with it after a bout of HPV B19, otherwise known as Fifth's or Slap Cheek Syndrome. Took 18 months for a doctor to finally tell me why I was in pain and tire all the time. Every blood test came back normal and I looked healthy.

Actually I don't want to be given the only test that can show I have FMS, since it is done on spinal fluid, to check Substance P levels. I don't need any more reason to suffer from pain.

Interestingly enough, I'm pretty sure the nurse that evaluated me before my blood tests did some simple preliminary tests for FMS/CFS. She checked a lot of those "pain spots" that are cited as a typical FMS symptom, and they didn't hurt for me. I also had to answer about 1,000 different variations of the question "Are you depressed?".

My sleeping patterns have always been out of whack. I'm a night owl, and I'll always sleep into the afternoon given the chance. Add onto that the fact that I'm an Architecture major (we're infamous for pulling all-nighters in studio) and it all adds up to some pretty messed up sleep cycles.

If it's another virus that's at fault, then I'll just have to wait things out. My immune system is pretty good, so I'm confident that whatever it is will pass eventually. If not, well maybe I'm just a hypochondriac making an excuse for his laziness :P

In my day mono was called the "Kissing Disease." Damn kids! Get off my yard! It'd be my suggestion, Eske, that you stop frenching Moeb. The guy's just filthy with communicable illnesses...
