A follow up story from the same journalist. No comment from me.Cos I really can't be ***** arguing about this atm.

(well maybe a lil comment)

If people can't see whats right in front of their eyes, then thats up to them, I guess......But if I was still 'supporting the troops' by thinking that keeping them in Iraq until 'the mission is completed and democracy is established', I'd be starting to question my faith in the infallability of the architects of this farcical excursion into the middle east. The **** fight that is coming is gonna make the last 3 years look like the 'cake walk' that was promised at the start of Gulf War II.

just sayin....

The Independent is one of the best and most reliable newspaper in the UK. Especially on the middle-east. It's a bit left of centre though, which I guess makes it a rumour-rag in gbaji's eyes.

Anyway, people have been saying teh country will be partionned for over a year. It's no suprise. Only that it took so long for government officials to admit it. Iraq was only kept together under Saddam because of the fear he imposed on his citizens. If the Iraqis want to divide the country, which is understandable considering the civil war that's already taking place, they surely must be allowed the right of self-determination.

The problem is that Turkey would be pissed off, since the Kurds would have their own nation. Iran would surely become "close friend" with the Sunni nation that emerged from it, and it would therefor not be very "independent". Finally, Iraq is not dividable along clear ethnic lines, so there would wither have to be huge population movement, or some ethnic minorities living in fear.

Still it's probably better than the civil war going on at the moment. Not sure it's great for the region, but then again, with Iran getting nukes and Israel getting pissed, the whole region might soon be a gigantic empty radioactive parking lot.

will never work.

both sides will want controll of the ports and oil producing reagons. even if they decide to share them, what would be the split? 50/50? percentage of population? percentage of land?

and how long before one side or the other decided they wanted more? or all of it? and soon or later, one side or the other is gona try and take over the kurds for their oil. and what about the kurds?

will result in a constant state of civil war. but im ok with that. so are most americans. lets pull out and let them kill each other till there is a clear victor, THEN start negotiations. hell, lets sell them the weapons to do it too.

unfortunatly, lobbiest dollars tell our polticians what to care about, and the oil industry has alot more of them than the NRA, which is why we are in Iraq to begine with.

the best solution is to equip a few thousand people, turn hussin loose, say "our bad", and run like hell. never get the neo-cons to bite off on it though, so on with the bloodletting, and lets not forget to sacrifice our share of kids for the neo-con cause.

nuke em. its the only sure way.
