What are you waking up to?Follow

#27 Jul 16 2006 at 12:58 PM Rating: Good
I'm waking up to the hollow realization that you're gone. The cold space beside me in the bed we once shared. The fact that I've lost you, and you may never be back.

I should've paid for another night.

On days that I have class, a few cigarettes and a cup of coffee from 7-11. On days that I don't have class, a big glass of water.

I am definitely a coffee snob.

It's taken a couple years of ********* but the coffee roaster down the street now keeps organic Guatemalan (light roast) roasted every other week. If he runs out up front, he stashes an extra pound in the back for me. My alternate would be a medium Panamanian Casa Ruiz.

Refridgerate in sealed container, grind moments before adding water, water just under boiling point (10" steam), stainless steel french press.

Good coffee has no need of sugar, cream, or any other foreign substance.

Coffee machines are the worst thing to ever happen to a good toasty bean. They take good coffee and turn it into a dribbling font of skeeterfluid. Nasty stuff.

If I'm out and about and trust a stand to make a good espresso, it's 4 shots no lid.

I usually drink half to a full pot of coffee a day. My "regular" is Eight O'Clock whole bean with a bit of sugar. Since I'm poor though, lately I've been scavenging whatever I can find in the house - I seem to be the only real coffee drinker here.

A few weeks ago I found these single-pot samples and decided to try them. Apparently they'd been in this house longer than I have (including the two years I spent living here) and were probably some 6-7 years old. I also chose the worst of the bunch, Chocolate-Cherry Decadence. Now, it wouldn't have been all that bad, honestly, if there was some sugarn in the house. Lite maple syrup just doesn't cut it. Since then I've resorted to another find - a brown-bag of grinds labelled "Galvin's Fault" from a local coffee shop my friend used to work at, the Black Cow (or the Mad Cow as I call it). This is also probably over five years old, but a lot better than the tins of Maxwell House Master Blend I've found half-full. Those are old as well; come to think of it I probably left them here when I was living here regularly.

I had thought that it was too hot and too late in the day to make some, but this thread has driven me to brewing! Bastards! *sips some freshly ground Eight O'Clock*
Since my coffee bean grinder also doubles as my pot grinder, sometimes I also get a little extra! Smiley: grin

A shower is all it takes to wake me up. The fact that I will vomit anything I eat within the first 3 hours of being awake has nothing to do with it.

*gag* I hate all flavored coffee. I like coffee flavored coffee. I admit that I sweeten it and add cream/milk, but not flavored creamer or syrup or any of that other nonsense. My sister drinks hazelnut almost exclusively, and puts french vanilla creamer in it...ugh.

When I wake up, instead of Coffee, I drink a can of either Monster energy drink or BooKoo energy drink. Wakes me right up when I have it with a bowl of cereal.

I can sometimes tolerate some flavors...hazelnut smells really nice but I don't like to drink it...FV is ok. I used to get those fake vending-machine FV cappuccinos but that was back in my more masochistic days.

About as close as I can come to flavored coffee is having a mocha...usually by mixing half hot cocoa in with half a cup of coffee...but never in the morning. That's an evening thing, and usually because the idea of straight up hot chocolate is too sickly-sweet.

Glass of Orange juice and cerial or oatmeal is my usual breakfast. Though on weekends I do occasionally go the full omlette route.

Every morning when I get up, I make my son (3) breakfast: Oatmeal, Frozen Blueberries, Maple Syrup, and Bacon on the side.

I usually make breakfast for my wife, while my Coffee drips. She gets Toast, plus a poached egg, fruit and Yogurt.

I just drink the coffee, about 3 or 4 cups by noon. Kicking Horse Coffee - 454 Degrees. Dark roast, strong brew, nothing in it, and lots of it.

I was drinking the Dunkies coffee for a while, now whatever White Hen blend Joph brought home when I was out and panicked. Lately I'm trying to cut back on coffee because I was up to three cups a day, and I don't care to be that dependant on anything. I'm trying to drink more water, but it tastes awful here.

I've never even had a cup of joe. I have one of those really small jars of instant Maxwell House coffee in case anyone wants some. I think my father's had one cup out of it in the 2 years since I bought it. I'm sure it's good stuff. Not that I'd know.

All I need to get going is either a really loud stereo if I'm getting up when it's dark or the sun on my face.

Breakfast is usually a couple of bowls of oatmeal/cereal or 8 to 9 pancakes with loads of syrup. Speaking of which, I need to go have breakfast.

I have 3 little mom & pop coffee places within walking distance to my house, so I will pick up different regional beans and mix them together for my morning cup.

At work, all we have is the genereic crap, and the people here make mud instead of coffee, so I usually will go with one Red Bull between 8-9am and just drink water after that.

I am the same way. If I eat too much food before 11 am, I have to take a huge dump at about 10:30.

The smell of coffee makes me nauseous, the taste even more so.

Dr. Pepper or Mt. Dew for my early morning caffeine fix.

Speaking of breakfast, I just changed things up a bit and made my scrambled eggs over-easy instead. Are the yolks supposed to leak out and ooze all over the plate?

Also, FYI, Bisquick 2 years past expiration does not make very appetizing pancakes, no matter how much cinnamon and maple syrup are added. Smiley: frown

That's what makes them over easy when the yolk is still runny. Smiley: inlove

Sop it up with some soft buttered toast.
