HARTFORD, Conn. -- A Hartford man who spent 18 years in prison on a rape charge walked out of court Tuesday a free man, exonerated by DNA evidence.

James Calvin Tillman, 44, had been imprisoned since his arrest in 1988. He was sentenced a year later to 45 years in prison.

. . .

Neither Tillman nor his attorneys would say whether he plans to sue the state or seek other compensation. Unlike some states, Connecticut does not have a compensation policy for the wrongly convicted.

Ain't that some ****. How do you pay a man back for 18 years of his life in the prime years of living and all the psychological damage that goes along with being in prison so long. I hope he sues and I hope he wins a cubic ********* of money, summabitch deserves every penny. Thank goodness we don't castrate convicted sex offenders, you most certainly couldn't give those back, eh Neph?

What, are you saying he shouldn't be upset at his wrongful conviction? 'Cause that's how I'm reading that. Smiley: motz

Maybe next time he's wrongly convicted, he'll make sure it's for a crime I'm not burnt out on discussing. Like unlawful application of pesticides without a license.

Well, if he's as religous as he claims to be he must believe that God allowed him to be put in prison for a reason.

He suffered for our sins!

If it kills the bugs without leaving obvious marks, it's unlawful date-application of pesticides without a license.

Maybe, maybe not. I've heard that about child molesters, but I hardly think prisons are full of knights of chivalry out to defend the fair sex.

I agree with Samira, when you see a rap sheet listed rape always seems to be part of the resume of a hardened criminal. Murder and rape. Armed Robbery and rape. Jay walking and rape. It's always there.

That, and I would be surprised if the guys who are doing the raping in the outside world aren't the ones doing it on the inside. Kinda counter-intuitive if you ask me.

In the USA, more have been relesed due to DNA evidence then put to death by the state since the reinstatement of the death penalty. And relatively few have been tested.

Juries convict the innocent. Police beat confessions out of them - much like the intelligence we get by beating it out of terrorism suspects it just isn't very reliable.

And in California, we actually execute about one every few years but we kill about one a week due to medical neglegence. It's so dire a judge has ordered the state to improve the conditions or simply release (some) prisoners.

Jesus hippy. Just invent the perfect judicial system and staff it with robots and you're set.

Sheesh, Neph, you live in the Central Valley. Haven't you seen some of those correction officers acting like robots? At least robots gone haywire.

The real question is this: did he leave any marks? Cause, y'know, if he didn't, it ain't rape.
