Since when did it become "trendy" to bash on the country that gives you such freedoms?
People tend to forget that the U.S. is the most powerful nation in the country and because of that you're given the right to speak out as you do. Yes you may not agree with some policies of the President but that doesn't mean you should outwardly hate him, either. He IS the commander-in-chief of the United States and as such he does require some basic, god given human respect. -.-
I'm tired of people believing everything CNN tells them. Yes there's a war on, yes it seems ill planned, yes the CIA got its information wrong by only having one informant and yes the Bush administration acted on it and that's why we're in Iraq right now.
Do people tend to forget the conditions Iraq was in during Sadams reign? He murdered thousands, if not tens of thousands, drained his country dry, murdered his opposing political party and built seven palaces to his name. Sounds pretty bad, doesn't it?
Just because death and suffering doesn't effect you directly doesn't mean it should be ignored. The man was crazy and NEEDED to be overthrown. We have the means, as a country, to act and to do, and we did. It was a moral issue above anything else.
So yes, while you're sipping your Coca-Cola, listening to your iPods and enjoying your freedom that gives you the TIME to think about stuff like this, just be a little thankful you're here because you could be somewhere else in a far worse situation not enjoying the luxury of freedom and a strong (somewhat) economy.
Another thing about foreign affairs, the U.S. has been using the Monroe doctrine as an excuse to meddle in foreign affairs since the end of World War II, though it really started with Teddy's term in office when he interpted the doctrine in such a way.
I agree America needs to go through a bit of an isolationist period but not completely. Please understand if one of your leaders came to the US that wasn't D.C. there'd probably be similar circumstances taken to secure his safety.
