Since when did it become "trendy" to bash on the country that gives you such freedoms?

People tend to forget that the U.S. is the most powerful nation in the country and because of that you're given the right to speak out as you do. Yes you may not agree with some policies of the President but that doesn't mean you should outwardly hate him, either. He IS the commander-in-chief of the United States and as such he does require some basic, god given human respect. -.-

I'm tired of people believing everything CNN tells them. Yes there's a war on, yes it seems ill planned, yes the CIA got its information wrong by only having one informant and yes the Bush administration acted on it and that's why we're in Iraq right now.

Do people tend to forget the conditions Iraq was in during Sadams reign? He murdered thousands, if not tens of thousands, drained his country dry, murdered his opposing political party and built seven palaces to his name. Sounds pretty bad, doesn't it?

Just because death and suffering doesn't effect you directly doesn't mean it should be ignored. The man was crazy and NEEDED to be overthrown. We have the means, as a country, to act and to do, and we did. It was a moral issue above anything else.

So yes, while you're sipping your Coca-Cola, listening to your iPods and enjoying your freedom that gives you the TIME to think about stuff like this, just be a little thankful you're here because you could be somewhere else in a far worse situation not enjoying the luxury of freedom and a strong (somewhat) economy.

Another thing about foreign affairs, the U.S. has been using the Monroe doctrine as an excuse to meddle in foreign affairs since the end of World War II, though it really started with Teddy's term in office when he interpted the doctrine in such a way.

I agree America needs to go through a bit of an isolationist period but not completely. Please understand if one of your leaders came to the US that wasn't D.C. there'd probably be similar circumstances taken to secure his safety.

I consider myself an active person in politics, but I think it best if someone with a premium account could ask a moderator/administrator to move this thread to the "Out of Topic" forums. I came to the main FFXI forum to read up on the game.

And to whoever said "lolbush," you're a n00b.

Wow, so many knees jerking in here, a person could get hurt.

When any world leader travels these days, huge precautions are taken--sewers sealed, roads blocked off, windows closed, all that jazz. Before Kennedy was shot, presidents used to travel in big stylish convertibles so the people could see him; now, the president is cloistered away in an armored car about as tough and as heavy as an aircraft carrier. It isn't BUSH that causes all this fuss, it's "the President of the USA"--and believe me, we all have similar precautions taken when heads-of-state visit us over here in the U.S., too. It's a wonder people living in Washington DC ever get any fresh air, there are so many dignitaries visiting and causing the windows to have to stay closed.

Again, this has zero to do with who our president is and everything to do with the fact that he is the president of your most major trade partner and one of your allies for many decades. We extend the same protections to Chancellor Merkel or Tony Blair or Berlusconi whenever they visit here.

Oh, and please confine the political bashing to another folder; it isn't relevant to FFXI. This has nothing to do with liking or loathing our current president, it's just common sense and reading comprehension.

That means exactly jack and sh*t.

Now I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic or not but I hope to the G(g)od(s) of your choice you are.

Don't get me wrong, I love feeling that collectively our entire world is going to sh*t and one of the major causes is rich private corporations with all the rights of a single individual (except you know they have billions of dollars to influence everything in their favor) raping the earth and it's people for massive profit that will eventually crumble under it's increasingly unstable base.

Having famous people who are such great role models for people.

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10...421,00.html

Granted that's one disgusting individual but there are girls out there that look up to this *****.

And I'd be willing to be the farm she's not the only dipsh*t who has a lot of money simply because they are good pretending.

Come to think of it, Hilton isn't good at playing make-believe either, the only good things I've seen her do is wrapping her lips (both kind) around some guys Richard and buying sh*t.

We're the equivalent of that jerk in highschool who's parents were rich and bought him the nice car and he never grew spiritually or evolved as a person but became stagnant in his one-dimensonal self-gratification approach to life.

America also is the fattest country in the world. I guess that's a sign of success when the number one killer is heart disease.

And I do plan to move to Canada eventually. I'm getting the hell out of this crazy-as-@#%^ christian fundamentalist run country.

Ya and there are many other countries that are in the same situation, but they dont have oil or have something that the US wants, there for, they leave them.

Hypocrits.

And where do you get off saying if it wasnt for the States noone would have freedom, just wow, if it wasnt the states it woudl be someone else. There is something called the UN, they try lol. Many believe that the states have caused more dmg then good, so dont blanket statement that your country is the saviour to the world, because i guarantee that many dont believe thats the case.

No, if this country was Christian fundamentalist run we would have a completely different set of problems.

I feel for you. I've had that happen to me in AMERICA, and it wasn't even Bush! It was because of Cheney!

But anyway... Don't hate on America. It's not our fault, it's because of the people in charge. If you don't like it, declare war. idc.

But you can't really blame America for bossing other people around. There are a lot of stupid people, and America flaunts its junk around, but if another country had more money and resources and knew how to use it, etc... They'd do the SAME thing. Look at Napoleon for example. Any other powerful nation in history. They all have their arc. They start out low, rise to power, then decline again. America is just at the top (and i am guessing the lowering end) of its arc.

If you count the trillions of dollars we owe other countries for some things from the Revolution era (like FRANCE who bailed colonial America out when they were getting their asses kicked by the Redcoats), we are actually NOT the richest country in the world. Actually, I would think we'd be close to one of the mor poorer ones. But hey, we're America. The trillions of dollars we owe to other countries will go away, simply because we are America.

haha...right.

On a different note:

Dear Germany,

Please shut the **** up about housing the American president for a few days. We've had to house this ****** for the past 6 years, after watching 2 elections in which he stole. And now, rumor has it, his ******** brother, the governor of Florida, is considering running, so we might have to put up with his sorry *** too.

All in all, shut the **** up and get over it.

Love,
America

We have no control over where the president goes. I find it extraordinarily sad that some of you lump all Americans into the same catagory as being arrogant, idiotic, etc. I find that to be the epitome of sad, and I pity you for having such a view.

Back to to the subject at hand. Anytime someone of international importance vistits any country, they have to take certain safety precautions, because if something where to happen to that person, it would create an international incident.

I have to concur though that this should be in the out of topic forum. Discussions of politics and religion bring out the worst in people and shouldn't even really be brought up in the first place.

One of the greatest freedoms we have in this country is our ability to choose. So, for those yearning so much for Canada, or Europe somewhere, there is nothing stopping you. Apply for your visa, get your plane/bus ticket and get going. If you really hate it so much then why stay?

Im not a 100% fan of how things in this country are run. But I get annoyed when people either dont understand exactly how good they have it...or are unwilling to put their money where their mouth is. If you dont like it vote. If you dont like the outcome of the vote, then leave.

Most often, on this forum, the anti-us sentiment is translated as "OMFG LOLMERICA, Go teh teh CAndaA, USa iSTeh Suxxorz!!!!11one!!!!"

America has this unfortunate problem with touting itself abroad as "government by the people, for the people, of the people" when the truth is quite the opposite.

The populace at large has no say whatsoever in our government's decisions. Politicians lie just enough to get elected, then do whatever they want for as long as they can. Next election year we kick them out (assuming their competition isn't worse than they are), and the process repeats itself.

And thanks to Bush now, we're a dictatorship in everything but name. He's pulled a Hitler-ish coup by usurping the authority of the other government branches and surrounded himself with ***-kissing yes-men who cover his back at every turn.

I love America, but the country we live in isn't American anymore. It's a fat, spineless, shambling, zombie resurrected from American's dead corpse by greedy Republicans.

We might still be the "best" country in the world, but the prettiest and most polished **** on the shelf is still a ****.

I totally agree. If you need to put "off topic" or "very off topic", you really need to think to yourself that maybe you shouldn't be posting it here in the first place.

I equate Christian Fundamentalism with Scary as Hell.

Right up there with, ya know, spiders and the creature from the blue lagoon.

So while Bush&Co. may not be exactly the definition of CF (Christian fundamentalism is a movement which arose mainly within American Protestantism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by conservative evangelical Christians, who, in a reaction to modernism, actively affirmed a "fundamental" set of Christian beliefs: the inerrancy of the Bible, the virgin birth of Christ, the doctrine of substitutionary atonement, the bodily resurrection of Jesus, and the authenticity of his miracles.) he believes in it enough to be devoid of reason.

Whey the hell can't we have a genious atheist run the country?

Did not the Germans try that once, I mean twice, before?

Wouldn't there still be 2 split Germanys if not for the USA staring down the soviets during the Cold War at great expense of own money, time and lives?

I would agree with you, except that while he may be devoid of reason, his actions (and more importantly the actions of the rest of the government) aren't those of CFs, they're the actions of representatives of the people that got them into office. (by which I don't exactly mean the American public)
