WASHINGTON (AP) -- An FBI raid on a Louisiana congressman's Capitol Hill office was legal, a federal judge ruled Monday.

Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas F. Hogan said members of Congress are not above the law. He rejected requests from lawmakers and Democratic Rep. William Jefferson to return material seized by the FBI in a May 20-21 search of Jefferson's office.

I don't know how to feel on this. One the one hand, no man should be above the law, regardless of station. On t he other hand, this is a case of a judge upholding his own warrant, so the importance of the ruling is diminished, unfortunately. :(

There is quite a bit of influence peddling in US politics. When they have probably cause, they should get a warrent and investigate. It is very serious.

Of course they are not getting warrents against others under investigation and I suppose there could be a charge of discrimination against this guy in particular.

The really funny thing is that control of Washington in bought with campaign money - it's not coke and prostitute money - and these guys are (by and large) in insanely safe seats.

I don't know about the seat of this guy in particular, but I can speak to the chair of the house ways and means committee, Jerry Lewis. When I lived in his district, the (only major) opposition party didn't field a candidate against him in the general election. What is he collecting money for? The off chance that his own party will rise up against him? Why do people like (insert every congressperson from every district I've lived in over the past decade) who have insanely safe seats bother with the bribes?

Of course I know the answer, humor me here

Perhaps I'd feel a bit better if they were bribed with stuff they could actually use like virgins and/or really tasty pastries instead of campaign funds which add 0.01% to the odds of their relection.

What?? When did this start? I saw this movie with Jimmy Stewart and I was sure it was all taken care of now.

Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.
