Dude, seriously, what's better than poking her in a building that is dubbed "The Mystery Spot".

A honeymoon is supposed to be one where you rarely get outside of the hotel room because you're too busy making the monster with two backs, not sightseeing (unless it's discovering new erogenous zones on your new spouse's body). If that quote is where you are already in your relationship, I give you three years before she dumps you, max. I call May 2009 as the date the divorce is finalized.

Totem, don't be silly. I never had a honeymoon and it's been three years and we're doing just...oh wait, nevermind.Smiley: grin

Seriously though, it sounds as though you guys have already had some great vacations and such together Sora...do you really both just want an excuse for another exotic sort of trip or would it maybe be nicer to go somewhere relaxing, less touristy, maybe out of the way to just spend time together? What about a spa or something?

Congratulations, by the way, happy times!

You'd better be really great, because if I was in a hot spring next to a volcano, I wouldn't need you.

Thank you

Yes we have had some decent vacations but we get bored with relaxing. Its nice to lay on the beach and sip cocktails but I need to get out and see some Shit that I may never see anywhere else. We did a lot of relaxing in Curacao and we missed out on some great snorkling and scuba trips. We will definetly pick a place that mixes adventure, privacy for the scrumpin and relaxing. The Tabacon Volcano Resort seems to encompass everything.

Pfffft. My woman's world shakes after every time I show her my volcano. Bedtime for the Totems is a honeymoon and vacation all rolled up into one exotic experience. Right, honey? Honey?

Ok, I need more information. How much caysh are you planning on spending?

I beg to differ. In that situation, a ***** would be the cherry on my volcano sundae.

Yep! But it wouldn't really matter - you can go out and swim around in the pool heated by the volcano, swim right up to the bar. The volcano is the whole event, really.

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I just can't like you anymore.

You haven't ever rented a private island have you? Because that would be more than I can take right now, hahaha.

Nexa

No, we're safe then. No private islands here.

Well my folks said they'd give us a time share anywhere we wanted but Tabacon is not in their Vacation Club network other resorts in Costa Rica are but nothing that compares to a farking Volcano. They did give us $5,000 for the wedding so we may just cut corners on the reception and keep it within the money alloted by the parents-in law.

Ok, I'm working up some ideas. Any places defintely off the list? Places she or you would never go due to phobias, irrational hatred of pygmies, etc?

Buy a plasma TV and a HD video of the beach in Tahiti. Sit back in an air conditioned room, with skylights sipping drinks delivered by a hired hot-chick bartender. You'll feel as if you are somewhere exotic without all the fuss of dealing with insects, innocultions, airplane hijackings and customs officers! Hell, you even get a plasma TV out of the deal! How can you go wrong? Smiley: dubious

She hates bugs (so do I) but really anything tropical, think Belize.

Also a lot of these places are remote so how about a copter ride?

edit: Distance is always an issue. We are not big plane people so something 6+ hours on a plane is a nightmare.

First off, do not go on a helicopter ride inna Third World nation unless the letters UN are painted on the side or there are guys in OD green jumpsuits with US Army stitched on the breast pocket and are carrying large caliber guns. Helo operators even in this country are notoriously lax in their training, maintenance, and hiring procedures, so you can only imagine what it's like in a place where there are no rules.

Ok, the beaches of Belize can be very secluded, romantic, and amazingly inexpensive as long as you are willing to travel to get to them. For about $50-75 a day you can have a very nice bungalow with full maid service, all the fresh fruit, fish, and alcohol you can consume on your own private beach for as many people you will see.

I've heard Costa Rica is a terrific place to go as well-- very American oriented in terms of what they offer for lodging, food, services, entertainment, etc. It's supposed to be very cheap as well, but not as much as Belize. Good tropical atmosphere, jungles to explore, mountainous regions as well.

A Barefoot cruise that sails for 7 to 14 days in the Caribbean is reputed to be phenominal if you don't mind a boat rocking and no more than 100 passengers (some boats have fewer than 20). They go to lesser populated ports of call and are much more personal. This is what Mrs. Totem and I will be doing the next time we take a cruise. These are slightly more expensive than a standard cruise.

On the same note, there is a new mega-large ship that goes out of Florida with the Royal Caribbean cruise line. It's the largest boat in the world, or so they say. Tons of stuff to do, large cabins, and losts of island hopping.

I was going to suggest a longer trip, but you said 6 hours was your max, so my suggestion of trying northern Japan is most likely out of the question. Avoid Tokyo unless you can take large crowds. However, there's nothing like the Far East for exotic. Hong Kong is a wonderful destination too.

Thank you Totem for the info! I will look into the barefoot cruise. We were in Belize two years ago on San Pedro Island. We loved it! I am looking now at two resorts in Belize that are a lot different from where we stayed last time.

JaguarPaw We stopped here while cave tubing, looked like a nice little secluded place.

JaguarReef We did not get a chance to see this place. We are comfortable traveling to Belize, we have done it before and will do it again. Lots of stuff to do there also.

Belize used to be very inexpensive; but since they got an influx of money from China during the Hong Kong reversion to mainland China there's probably been some inflation. Just a guess.

Costa Rica is very reasonable, and *very* diverse.

Both are great travel destinations, friendly and interesting. We hired a tour guide in Costa Rica who was so excited about showing us around his home - literally; he took us to his house for lunch. It sounds weird but it was charming.

English is widely spoken in both countries, so that's a wash. You'll be warned about crime in the cities in both countries but I've never had any problems at all.

I've also heard to avoid El Salvador and Hondo like the plague, and Nic isn't much better, if only because they don't have as many gangs that have formed death squads. Seriously.

Now there is the adventure I am looking for!

I threw all the ideas at the Mrs now she gets to fine tune them. The Volcano is still on the top of our list though followed probably by Belize's Jaguar Paw.

We were very close to buying a beach front condo in Belize for $95,000 USD two years ago but didn't have the money, apartments in NJ in a ghetto on top of a firing range go for twice that.

Man, it would be half payed off by now renting it out. Smiley: banghead

Everyone goes to islands and beaches for their honeymoon. Be different. Go hit a ski resort. You get a nice room with a hot tub in it. Hit the slopes for half a day, then start boozing it up and hit the hot tub for steamy sex.

I was voting for Delaware but that was shot down, Hershey Park, shot down. I haven't skied in years and the Mrs never has. I don't trust her riding a bike let alone two sticks.

I did want to try something out of the ordinary but I am drawing a blank.

Trinidad and Tobago....

It's great. Very inexpensive, unbelievable food, nice people (English is official language) and great scenery. We stayed on tobago, which is more rustic, but still great. There are some really nice resorts near the towns of a nice eco-resort further up. footprints resort

Honeymoons are counter-intuitive. Seems to me it'd be wiser to take a trip with someone other than your new spouse, since you're stuck vacationing with them till death do you part and all.
