Mr. Ambrya and I spent his day off on Monday doing a major upgrade to my computer. The new mainboard is nice, the new processor is REALLY nice (Athlon XP 64 3500) but the thing that's thrilling me most, right now?

The case.

The puppy is whisper quiet. The only time I can hear it is when the house is completely silent. Compared to the fan in my last case which, while functional, spent the first hour and a half after I powered up each morning sounding like a saw-mill before settling down into something closer to a normal noise level, this is a huge improvement.

Now for a new video card...I'm having fun with EQ2, but it's LAGGY...

All I know is it's a brand called "Antek" (IIRC) and it's black and silver, has a much larger diameter fan in back than I normally see, has the power supply boxed off in its own little enclosed area, and has some strange funnel-like thing on the side where another fan can go if one so chooses.

I'm not big on the technical details. All I know now is that my husband doesn't have to yell when speaking to me from the next room when the computer is on and it doesn't sound like a malfunctioning prop plane for the first hour after I turn it on anymore. Both of which are very "of the good" in my book.

I have a large cardboard box with the front cut out and a bunch of midgets that act out everything they see on the 13.5 inch monitor behind the box. It's like being THERE.

I feed them vegetables. When they suck, I start throwing them at the screen and they eat when I turn off the system. As for SAP, unfortunately it is not supported, however I do have the option of turning on the little sign-langage dude in the bottom right corner. I think I'll get SAP with my next model.

With their stumpy little fingers is it hard to make out what it is that they are signing or do you read his lips as well?

I can't read sign language. I just turn that feature on so I can watch the midget look like he is a retarded kid with something sticky on his fingers that he is trying to get off. I'm twisted like that.

I upgraded my crappy Dell laptop last month, and I managed to install and play America's Army on it! Smiley: laugh

Inspiron 2650 comes with 1.6Ghz Pentium4 Mobile CPU, 256mb RAM and 8mb GeForce2 Go video. I doubled the RAM and replaced the video with a 16mb version. Still not a monster machine, but I can play my games!

Speaking of watching creatures that make spastic movements with their little digits, for those of you with cats try taking scotch tape and fold it over so the sticky side is on the outside and makes a circle. Then stick it to the cat's paw.

Fun ensues as the cat tries to dislodge the tape from everything it touches. Works on poodles too.

One of these babies?

If that's the one you got, then congratulations, that's a nice case. We just built three super high end modeling computers at work using those cases for Vissim and Visum. They have a layer of noise supression foam sandwiched in between the layers of the side panels. Very quiet case, good airflow. The only downside is that it is quite heavy compared to others i've dealt with, but how often do you move computers anyways eh?

I think mine's a little lower-end than that one, but a lot of the features are the same, like the silicon gromets for mounting the hard drives, etc. Not quite a sleek looking, but in the ballpark. And since mine probably won't be moving from under my desk until we change houses, weight is very much not a problem.
