64-year-old former energy executive dead.
July 5 2006: 10:06 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Enron founder Kenneth Lay died early Wednesday in Aspen, a family spokeswoman said. He was 64.

In a statement, spokeswoman Kelly Kimberly said, "The Lays have a very large family with whom they need to communicate, and out of respect for the family we will release further details at a later time."

In May, Lay was found guilty of nine counts of fraud and conspiracy related to the collapse of Enron, the company he founded that grew into the seventh largest company before it imploded after an accounting scandal. Top of page

I wonder what killed him, (other than the thought of prison, that is.)

I'm not sure if the implication here is that you can't kill someone in a way that looks like a heart attack, which you can farily easily, or just to be redundant.

:)

Had someone cited a source saying it was a heart attack? I must have gone temporarily illiterate.

I don't get it. Hunter blew his brains out, Lay's ticker kicked it. Way I see it, Hunter was more of a man.

It was a joke, disregarding the actual facts (heart attack), instead alluding to their proximity to each other in Colorado and Lay's alternative to jail time.

Huh, stress is a motherf%*#er. Still, I half expect that after Lay was pronounced dead that they carted his body out of sight of the officials and had a voodoo witchdocter blow dust through his fist into Lay's face, causing him to "return to life", ala Geoffrey Holder in James Bond's Live and Let Die, in a scheme to help Kenny-boy avoid prison time.

I'm curious as to whether the government can finish the sentencing phase of the trial with him dead. I'd certainly like to see some money be taken from his estate after the massive defrauding he was responsible for, but I don't think that can happen anymore with him dead. Anyone know?
