Ioph... leaving me with nothing to argue with Smiley: glare

So.. as to the point of this thread..
The hippy notion of "all men equal" is indeed valid. No one has it over on anyone else.. whether they live in the jungle, the plains, the desert, or the forests.

What's up with people who are allergic to nuts? What's the evolutionary advantage there?

If the most we've done in 100,000+ years is some stubby fingers and stronger hearts in geographically isolated subgroups, I'm not convinced that the next 10,000 years will see bold new advances in the overall **** sapien design.

It's not just that. People being hairy, for exemple. 10,000 years ago, people had hair all over their body. Today, only some do. This an evolutionary change. Thats more what I am referring to.

There are loads more exemples, for exemple how our jaw changed when we started cooking meat. How some tribes in Africa developped a gene to combat some disease. There are loads more exemple, and in 10,000 or 100,000 years, there will lots more changes, subtle (genes) or otherwise (hair).

But I'm no evolutionary biologist. And I'm a goofball and f'cking moron for answering some question, so yeah, whatever. I'd never dare argue with such a tough guy.

If nuts were the only, or even the primary, food source the advantage would be with those genetic lines that contained no such allergies.

None of this is particularly difficult stuff.

Does this mean that we could de-evolve?

You can't technically de-evolve, that's a subjective value placed on the concept of evolution. That intelligence and culture are somehow a sign of advanced stage of evolution is faulty thinking. Social Darwinism FTL.

Edit - note to self, keep the words simple when sleepy bhodi

I think you're just miscalculating your timeline. 10,000 years ago, humans were already practicing some limited agriculture, boating and building permanent walled settlements. These weren't cavemen or Neanderthals (who disappeared some 20-30,000 years prior) but "real" human beings.

Don't feel too put off though. Apparently better people than us are having the same debate Smiley: laugh

not to be raining on everyones discussion, but didnt you guys take the day off of work? What the hell are you doing here? You would think evolution would have made most of you intelligent enough to call in sick or use a vacation day so you could have a 4 day weekend

They offered me free ice-cream so I felt compelled to come into the office. That, and we can wear jeans and flip-flops all week!

I'd rather use that vacation day for a trip home to see the folks, and it's an easy enough day. Evolution made me smart enough to give myself options other than the obvious. Yay!

No.

We had the option of working Saturday or working today. Since I work a side job on Saturday and Flea had to work today anyway, I opted to sit around the office alone and post on the forums all day.

After a weekend of drinking and forced death marches I have proclaimed July 3 2006 to be the 'International Day of Doing F'uck All'.

Somehow I always attributed posting on this site as doing 'f'uck all' so here I am!

Why?

Waste a paid day off because I don't want to come in and get paid for ******** around for eight hours? I'll save my paid days off for when they want me to do real work.

Nah. If I call in sick, I lose the holiday diferential and like Joph said, traffic is a dream and the workpace is leisurely. Win-win!

I wasn't referring to cavemen in particular. But yeah, I guess I forgot a 0 :)

Like I said, I'm no evolutionary biologist. But the article is cool, and its a fascinating debate (for goofballs like me, anyway). There's an amazing book called "Why we ate daddy" (I think, I read it in French) about evolution and the physiological and evolutionary changes that were brought about by cooking meat. It's quite crazy.

Still. Totem's original theory would've been "right" if humans were sedantary.

I was on vacation last week. I don't think they'd be too thrilled if I didn't show up today. (Also, last week used up all my vacation time)
