Scientists plan to recreate 'Big Bang' to uncover universe's mysteries....

The laboratory experiment will take place in Europe next year with the collaboration of US, Japanese and Russian scientists to increase scientific knowledge of dark energy and matter

I suppose that's a good idea.... if you can't figure out the mysteries of the universe just create your own!!

Now I wonder if in a few billion years... things would parallel with our universe.... expect for maybe a "made in the Milky Way" tag on it.

I would place alot more weight on Maxwel or Coulumb for electricity than anyone else. As for the experiment, high hopes but low expectations from dark matter research for the next 100 years or so.

If noone had observed electricity in the first damn place, I really don't see it existing at all.

Same with god :D

I brought this up with an astrophysics professor once, asking upon what grouds exactly man could seriously consider the presence of dark matter rather than just perhaps establishing a new paradigm based on new physics. I'm quite aware that a little bit of knowledge, especially in cosmology, can be a dangerous thing, but the answer of "well our current laws of gravity apply well enough for earth, so logically they apply to the entire universe" as just a tad unsatisfactory.

True. We invented it much the way we did the Easter Bunny.

Good point though, people might have been confused that there was some evidence for God that led people to invent it instead of it just being a crutch for weak minded fools who can't accept "I don't know" as an answer to questions.

The above statement that "well our current laws of gravity apply well enough for earth, so logically they apply to the entire universe" is a bit misleading. Most cosmologist use as much data as they can to determine that very question: "Do the basic laws of physics apply universally", and to assume that dark matter research is based on this, contridicts the very essence of the research.

In fact, current Big Bang cosmology requires several seconds of super-c acceleration of the universe's matter to account for current expansion. Meaning that current physical limitaions in place by our quantum foundations may in fact have been radically different.

Dark matter, is simply a name for an unknown amount of mass in the universal expansion equation. But you are right, our current results violate either basic gravity(the expansion is not relative to the amount of observable matter), or it violated the constant speed of light.

One answer: The constant speed of light is relative to the limiting structure of the quantum particles that make up that energy.

Answer two: There is a bunch of "dark matter" that is not observable and accounts for the expansion rate.

idk, take your pick, or insert option number 3.

Dark matter is about current observed motion of galaxies, not the big bang or the expansion rate of the universe.

Edit: no idea what the person below me is trying to say.

No.

Unless "Bird" is simply the name for a fish that flies.

You do know we are expanding currently right?
#24 Jun 30 2006 at 5:00 PM Rating: Decent
Well, the wikipedia for dark matter says that most of the evidence for it is related to things like *rotation* of galaxies (not expansion). Whereas the entry for dark energy says: "Invoking such an effect[dark energy] is currently the most popular method for explaining recent observations that the universe appears to be expanding at an accelerating rate"

You do know that you clearly don't have a grasp at all of a very elementary physics concept, right?
