Yes, I know, feedback or something, but I like the asylum and you can't make me. Has anyone ever explained why we can't just delete our own posts/threads? I mean, is there a good reason? Other forums let you!

So there's always proof of the foot in the mouth moment. Or the retarded comment. Smiley: grin

You could always go back and edit your post at least and delete it, right?

Oh sure, you can do that, but if you do a quadruple post or something, it seems silly to not be able to just delete the extras. I know it's a silly small amount of space, but it would still be to the advantage of the servers, right? What's the negative really...since you can edit the posts to be empty anyway? I guess deleting your own threads would delete the posts of other people so that might be out of the question, but just individual posts?

For double/triple/quad threads Alla encourages new topics rise from server hiccups. Instead of deleting a double posted thread, change the title and start a new idea or debate! Makes things fresh and snappy and keeps you on your toes.

Deleting threads assumes the ability to delete other people's posts. Which seems a no-no.

Deleting posts dorks up the continutity and, like Thumb says, allows for a bit of revisionist history. Yeah, you can edit them clean but you still leave evidence that you changed your post after the fact.

Beyond cleaning up the occassional server glitch, I can't think of a good, valid reason to need to completely remove your own posts/threads but plenty of ways to abuse the ability.

B/c they have enoughh trouble keeping the site from going super-nova after handling regular posts to consider something all fancy-dancy like this.

Besides, they spent the development money on KTGHA, KTHGB, and KTHGC on some new servers. This gold isn't going to farm itself!

The post deleting we do is a trick. We don't actually delete it, as in erase the data per say, but we just hide it. So it takes the same space on the server regardless.

I just think if we let people delete posts that suddenly anyone that had a thread go a direction they didn't like would just deep six it. I dunno.

If we let people delete anything they regretted saying, threads would end up being Swiss Cheese. There's also the whole thread starter nuking an entire thread thing being somewhat presumptuous

It could be more like threads can only be deleted until x amount of time or y amount of responses.

And messages can only be deleted if there have been none posted since then.
