"You sound skeptical," Kohler said. "I thought you were a religious symbologist. Do you not believe in miracles?"
"I'm undecided on miracles," Langdon said. Particularly those that take place in science labs.
"Perhaps miracle is the wrong word. I was simply trying to speak your language."
"My language?" Langdon was suddenly uncomfortable. "Not to disappoint you, sir, but I study religious symbology-I'm an academic, not a priest."
Kohler slowed suddenly and turned, his gaze softening a bit. "Of course. How simple of me. One does not need to have cancer to analyze its symptoms."

Wow, this is my first read through of anything by Dan Brown and I had always assumed that the Christian hatred of his work was purely because it presumed a faulty logic that questions their, and my, faith. I'm not a practicing Christian but I still believe in God and faith. I had to stop and re-read that paragraph again, comparing Christianity to Cancer is extremely bold to put it lightly.

This was in the first 30 pages, I'm still going to continue reading and probably read The Davinci Code after, but man, I can see now why Us Christians are in an uproar over this. I believe that most people who are condemning this book probably haven't read it and just think "Jesus was Married" is the main focal point against the religion. I still feel the people who think their faith is being questioned by Dan Brown don't hold strong convictions.

Sig turned off on the account of me being a Dirty Smiley: moogle F'ucker.

I object to the quoted portion more on the grounds that it was near-painful to read.

Brown gets paid to write crap like that? Seriously? Like, in real US dollars? Not in gift certificates or coupons?

Didn't we have a thread about this before? I'm too tired to look it up. But if I remember right, those that have read Dan Brown's works realized that it's called fiction.

Throw in to the mix that the Charicter making the statement has a very good reason to hate the church and everything it stands for and maybe just maybe you could place it firmly into context!

To read from the quote and conclude that Brown is trying to overthrow the church would be akin to quoting a section of The Vampire Lestat and then saying that Anne Rice want people to drink blood.

Oh and Joph, Angels and Demons is far superior to The Da Vinci Code which is even more laboured.

I too, know that it is fiction, and I stated that those who think their faith is being called into question don't hold strong convictions, but still, comparing Christianity to Cancer in any facet would put a lot of people on edge.

How would you like it if someone compared Foot Fetishism to Rape?

Your absolutly right, I was just sitting in my PC chair reading and wanted to make a point without knowing the whole story. I just set down my book and posted without any more knowledge of it than the first 27 pages.

I made a misjudgement in haste, but that honestly makes one of my points even better. I'll bet a lot of Christians got to this point in the book and were so outraged they condemned Dan Brown and all his work without ever reading any further.

I'll shut up now and get back to my book.
