When I first began frequenting these forums a few years ago, I remember seeing "The Asylum" on the left sidebar and pondering what it could possibly be. A short while later, when I learned what the Asylum was for, it became somewhat of an object of intimidation. Not real intimidation, mind you, as words from one anonymous poster to the next hardly warrant feelings of unease. However, I suppose it's fair to say that just as a karma score or a post count mean something tiny and insignificant to me, they still mean something, and as such suggests that one actually does care about things as meaningless as anonymous co-posters.

I'm getting somewhat off topic now. In my early days, I thought the Asylum was just for immature kids who wanted to flame and attack one-another for no real reason, other than perhaps some odd sort of sadomasochistic joy. I assumed that nobody who came here to post would have anything of value to say, and even if they did it would quickly be shut down by other Asylumites. I avoided the Asylum because of these false inferences for a very long time.

The majority of my time spent on Alla used to be committed to the FFXI forum, but eventually I migrated over to OoT. For a long time I found these two forums sufficient, but after a particularly long dry-spell on both forums, I found myself meandering in search of something interesting to read or post about. This, naturally, led me to the Asylum, though I came somewhat reluctantly at first.

What I found was something unexpected. The posts here are by far the most entertaining, and often the most intelligent, that Alla has to offer. The Asylum also seems to be the most active forum of the bunch, and what's more is that, for a place that has a reputation of being harsh and hateful, there is a wonderful sense of community here, the likes of which isn't seen anywhere else on Alla, at least to my knowledge.

I've been eavesdropping on your conversations for some time now, though this is actually my first post in the Asylum. Perhaps I'm somewhat of a voyeur, but I don't have much to add. What that said, I hope the exchanges here maintain their luster. You guys make time go by at a much more acceptable pace.

Feelings, nothing more than feelings,
Trying to forget my feelings of love.
Teardrops rolling down on my face,
Trying to forget my feelings of love.

Feelings, for all my life I'll feel it.
I wish I've never met you, girl;
You'll never come again.

Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
Wo-o-o, feel you again in my arms.

Feelings, feelings
Like I've never lost you
And feelings like I've never
Have you again in my heart.

Feelings, for all my life I'll feel it.
I wish I've never met you, girl;
You'll never come again.

Feelings, feelings like I've
Never lost you
And feelings like I've never have you
Again in my heart.

Feelings, for all my life I'll feel it.
I wish I've never met you, girl;
You'll never come again.

Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
Wo-o-o, feel you again in my arms.
Feelings...

You call your post with its "intelligent conversation" and "Sense of community" a real description!? Smiley: mad

You forgot to add that we're all, paradoxically, 40 year old virgin losers in our parents' basements who were picked on in high school AND 14 year old losers who get picked on in high school and will never touch a boob.

It's like living in your own past, man!

He won't expect it, but you're not fooling anyone. They don't call Bodhi "Snowball" for nothing.

Yeah I find it entertaining here as well, but mostly I just lurk ><. The reputation for being harsh and hateful doesn't come from being nice, and encouraging. Unless they are in some way encouraging you to gfy off a cliff :)

Yeah, thats how I felt before I started coming here.

Sometimes on the FFXI forums, people will say stuff about the Asylum, and I didn't know what I was expecting the first time I clicked on the link. Now this is usually the first place I check when I log on.

My first posts here were stupid, and prolly the rest will be too, but lurking is no fun.

I think so...but I don't understand what they mean about everyone not being nice and encouraging. Have you found that to be the case Yan? I mean, usually we just hold hands and sing kumbaya...

I refuse to play your reindeer games. :P

Well we don't need no one to tell us what to do
Oh yes we're on our own
And theres nothing you can do
So we don't need no one like you
To tell us what to do

We don't refer to the past
When showing what we've done
Our generation gap
Means the war is never won
The past is in your head
THE FUTURE'S IN OUR HANDS!

Cos I'm a brat
And I know everything
And I talk back
Cos I'm not listening
To anything you say

And if you count to 3 (one, two, three)
You'll see it's no emergency
You'll see I'm not the enemy
Just a Prisoner of Society

Well we don't need no one to tell us what to do
Oh yes we're on our own

Didn't we have a thread like this not too long ago? One of those affairs where one degenerate mooglefu[/Cyan]cker works up the nards to post here, and all the other mooglefuc[Cyan]kers jump in and say "accept me too!"

Go back to whence you came, lowly curs!
