Nice one Deb.

Sounds like you went out in style Bhodi, have fun your weekend off and good luck with the job search.

In some states that is against the law unless they can prove in documentation signed, witness, and signed by you, that you were neglect in your job and deserved to be fired.

oh well, you are gone and i hope happy for it.

You can actually claim unemployment on them now. IF you quit you can't claim unemployment. Id sit around claiming unemployment for awhile (assumeing you can afford it) just so that company has to pay into it.

Update- I did some looking on the labour board website and technically she is not allowed to do what she did (obviously) and yes I can file a claim for the lost wages of that 1 week.

I am just debating if it is worth my time to file a complaint.

Depends on whatever you said to her was enough, or if lodging a complaint would be the icing on the cake.

You don't have a job, and you are debating wether is worth your TIME to try to get a weeks pay?

What else do you have to do? Dave's not here, man.

It's money that you would have gotten if you worked...now it's money you'll get for going to the fair. Looks good to me.

Well it boils down to this. I told her that I was giving my two weeks notice and why, she asked for it in writing but said 'no rush' kind of deal and that she would be cool with using the day I told her verbally as the day of notification.

Of course I slacked. She found replacements and just gave my shifts away and told me not to come in for my last 4-5 shifts. Which tangles things up, since I technically hadn't given formal notification.

Still considering I phone the labour board and talked with someone and explained everything and they said that she still was not within her rights in firing me (informing an employer that you are giving notice is not grounds for dismissal) and that if I wished I could press a claim.

Edit - Oh I am going in for a job interview today that looks promising.

I would do it. It would take a hour probably, right?

To file the claim would take probably 45min, trave/wait time included. Then they contact both myself and the employer to gain further information and it gets shipped into the beaureaucratic process of red tape. However if it gets bogged down or they can't reach a final decision I could get charged a 100$ adminstrative fee.

Do it and get a case against her. Even if you lose wouldnt it go on her record?
#40 Jun 19 2006 at 1:04 PM Rating: Good
That's a good reason not to do it, if you can't afford the $100. Not having the time is not a good reason.

Any chance you could do the deed with your former boss and try to embezzle your wages from her pants?

I guess 'time' really is an excuse on my part.

Hassle is more on the money.

Filing a complaint, going through the process, pitting my word against hers (I don't trust her to be entirely honest), the fact that I didn't give my written notice right off the bat, the chance of getting dinged 100$, etc.

I am not saying I am 'not' going to do it, I have 6 months from termination to file the complaint. I just want to weigh the pros and cons (read: talk myself into it cause I am a pu[Antiquewhite][/Antiquewhite]ss) before I actually make a decision.

LOL.

I've known this guy since I was probably 10 years old. Not a friend but growing up in a small town you know everyone really. So I see him every now and then I knew he was working at a McDonalds (26 year old and no motivation). So I see him and ask politely how are things and he starts complaining about how he got unfairly fired from a McDonalds.

So I asked him why he got fired. Turns out he took a 3 hour nap in the cooler. He was still indignant about it. Afterall he stated all the work got done, its not like his napping disrupted the normal flow of things. I thought he was joking or being sarcastic about it but he was dead serious.

Smiley: laugh I guess he doesn't get that they can have him not work for free.
