Tucking any kind of shirt into your shorts does not make it look like you dressed up. You just look like a tool.
Don't do it.

You have to tuck in your jersey when playing soccer. Why are you hating on soccer?

That's fine and dandy, but put some pants on! You are scaring the locals.

I disagree. A man that is wearing his khaki docker bermudas to go play golf with his co-workers, boss and/or potential clients should tuck his alligator shirt in.
Now, if you're in your 20s and ******** around with friends at the beer crawl, that doesn't apply.

Do lederhosen count as shorts for this? Because trying to leave my shirt untucked and wear my suspenders causes a real problem.

Wait, what is classified as middle-aged again? I need to find out if this applies to me.

How about short shorts, a collered t-shirt, runners, knee-socks, a fanny pack and a visor?

This is my father's 'vacation' outfit.

If he's golfing with boss/colleagues or clients, he should be wearing pants. Besides, a lot of golf courses don't even let you wear shorts (yeah, dress code for a recreational activity, silly but true). How foolish would you look taking prospective clients golfing, then getting barred at the clubhouse? Not much more foolish than you already do showing off your middle-aged knobby knees.
