A WarningFollow

This sort of thing doesn't happen that much around here, so it was somewhat shocking to receive this email at work just now. I've edited to remove company name and references to locations:

Quote:
Dear Associate,

Corporate Security has received notice from the Police Department that a female resident reports being approached at the Post Office on Friday evening (June 2nd) and subsequently assaulted. The PD is investigating the incident at this time, and there is not a definitive description of the alleged assailants. Because of the close proximity of this location to our campus, we want to ensure that you are aware of the situation, and respectfully request your assistance with the following:

1. Please maintain a more watchful eye when leaving the building after hours, and report any suspicious activity to Corporate Security.
2. When working after hours, please utilize security to provide an escort to your vehicle. You may also call the security officer to escort you from the parking lot into the building if you arrive after hours.
3. The Security Team will be utilizing more frequent foot patrols in and around the facility. Should you be approached by a Security Team member to confirm your status as an associate, you patience and understanding with the process is much appreciated.
4. If you are assaulted, please take steps to ensure that either you or your attacker are visibly injured. Without visible injuries, it would be considered "date rape" and the assailant will go free.

This is just not the type of thing I would expect to happen around work. The office in question is in one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city.

So if a woman is getting raped she is supposed to ask the rapist to make sure and punch her in the face a few times before he's done?

I was always under the impression that rape is rape is rape. Whether or not its date rape or not, its still rape

There's rape, and then there's proving that it's rape. Two separate issues.

If someone is assaulted outside a post office, I would think that unless you are extremely kinky and looking to get caught, thats pretty good circumstantial evidence
