I seem to remember us having a long discussion about circumsision before. I recalled it when I saw this article. Can you imagine taking your ex to court over it?

Quote:
CHICAGO — Groups opposed to circumcision are watching the case of an 8-year-old suburban Chicago boy whose divorced parents are fighting in court over whether he should have the procedure.

The child's mother wants him circumcised to prevent recurring, painful inflammation she says he's experienced during the past year. But the father says the boy is healthy and circumcision, which removes the ******** of the *****, is an unnecessary medical procedure that could cause him long-term physical and psychological harm.

"The child is absolutely healthy," the father said during a break in a court hearing on the matter Wednesday. "I do not want any doctor to butcher my son."

The mother testified that her son has had five bouts of painful inflammation and has begged her to help him. Her son cannot wear underwear or jeans during the bouts and is comfortable only in loose-fitting pajamas, she said.

"My child was in the bathroom crying. He asked me to come in because his ***** did not look normal," she said, describing one of the episodes.

The couple's 2003 divorce decree gave the father the right to offer input on medical decisions. Earlier this year, he sued to block the surgery and Cook County Judge Jordan Kaplan ordered the mother not to have the boy circumcised until he could hear from both parents and the opinions of doctors who've examined the boy...

Saquet criticized the parents for letting their dispute escalate.

"They're using the kid as a weapon against each other," he said. "It's really sad. My heart goes out to that kid."

There's more in the article. It would be very sad if the kid is actually having problems as his mother claims, and his father won't let him have get circumcized to avoid further pain and discomfort.

In 1965 a woman in Winnipeg Manitoba brought her twins in for circumcisaion. The first boy they used a scalpel as normal. The second boy the doctor got creative and decided to use acid. What follows is one of the most ****** up sociological experiments ever.

JANET REIMER: When we first heard that there had been an accident we thought, "Well, what kind of accident could there be?" We went to the hospital and then the doctor said, "The ***** has been burnt off from circumcision." And I could not comprehend what he was talking about, because, you see, I thought they were going to use a knife.

NARRATOR: Inexplicably, the physician treating her son Bruce had chosen an extremely unconventional method of circumcision. Bruce's ***** had been completely destroyed.

The doctors knew of no way to undo the damage. But one American psychologist by the name of John Money advised the Reimers that they could best help their son by raising him as a daughter.

I still can't figure out what's so wrong about circumcision on men that people get up in arms about it Smiley: confused

I think there's an objection to loss of sensitivity, but I've never had anything less than intense satisfaction with the g/f. Having more sensitivity with a much greater risk of infection doesn't seem worth it for me.

And that's just fu[aqua][/aqua]cked up right there, Bodhi. Acid? [:cringe:]

For the record, most benefits claimed by doctors regarding infant circumcision are experienced if it is indeed an infant circumcision and not one undertaken later in life. So while there could be a lengthy argument to be had about circumcision in general, most of it wouldn't pertain to this particular case.

In this particular case, apparently the parents made a decision not to circumcise at birth, which is a perfectly valid choice. What it is now is a custody dispute regarding rights to decide on a medical procedure. I'm not a doctor (though I play a priest in WoW!) so I don't know which side is more accurate in their diagnosis but if it is in fact a recurring condition that won't go away or respond to treatment then circumcision seems a valid choice. It's not really the same argument as those using it for religious reasons, as a preventative measure or because it "looks better".

COncerning whether or not to circumsise, my doctor said something that made a lot of sense when we were deciding this for our son. He said if the father is circumsised, its best to have the son circumsised as well. If the father isn't leave thigns alone. Reason being, when the child gets older, hes going to see Daddy's package at one point, and compare. And if his package looks different than Daddy's, hes going to wonder if something is wrong with him. You try explaining circumsision to a three yr old, who wants to be just like daddy.

But like Joph said, in this particular case, they must have agreed at his birth not to go for circumsision. I didnt read the entire article, but I would think that unless there was a doctor who stepped up and said for health reasons the boy should get the operation, to let things lie. Maybe the boy also should be taught how to take special care of his own package. It might help decrease these infections

????

That is the craziest explanation I have ever heard in my life. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Our son was circumsized. They took him from the room, and came back about 5 mins later. Didn't scream, didn't fuss...no big deal. Had to use some vaseline for a few days, no problems.

If we have a son, I'll let Mr. Tare make the call on to snip or not to snip. I don't have one of those kooky things so I'm no expert.

I have 3 boys and none were snipped. I refuse to let that barbaric thing take place on any of my children unless it was medically necessary. Hell, in Canada it is not even covered by the health system because it is now considered an unnecessary, cosmetic operation.

It DOES impact sensitivity later on in life. Do not let anyone tell you any different.

You have a basis for comparison? What, did you get circumcized at 25?

The condition described in the article is Balanitis, and it can be very very painful, it is also correct that the only possible cure is to circumcise, but it is not guaranteed to get rid of the problem and it can affect the circumcised as well.

Because of Balanitis, I had the snip aged 34 and had to (reluctantly) also have my son cut at the age of 4.

I cannot stress how painful Balanitis was, when inflamed the skin at the end of the ***** split in many places at once, and bled continuously, p'issing was like trying to pass razorblades.
It doesn't show up on blood/skin tests and can only be diagnosed properly when inflamed.

Regarding the article, if this is all correct, then, this child's father is an ***** he is making the child suffer to get at the mother.

Ballanitis Potentially NSFW

My sons weren't circumcised until ages 4 and 7. It was done at the same time, and I wouldn't have had it done if it was my decision only.

My husband didn't have our oldest son circumcised at birth. Oldest one was born in the Philippines and it couldn't be done there, for some reason. Younger son wasn't circumcised at birth either, for a number of reasons.

A few years later, my husband decided that the boys needed to be circumcised. I wasn't sure about that whole idea, but I deferred to his decision on it. I remember after the bandages had to be taken off, the boys were crying and screaming and I was severely upset about the whole situation.

DSD's doctor's explanation on whether should it be done makes some sense though. I know at one point that the boys asked their dad why the peepees looked different. And my husband was of the belief that a circumcision is just supposed to be done.
