Hippo, if your parents are as well-off as I understand, why didn't they pay for a lawyer? Why did you use a court-appointed defense?

My parents (both of which attended law school) claim that I don't have to pay sh*t to anyone and that we never got a bill for anything. They also believe that by now it certainly would have come (as i saw him may 15th).

Again, given that they both completed law school I'm sure they are a bit more knowledgable on the subject than you. Also, given that I in fact haven't recieved a bill I'm inclined to believe you don't know what you're talking about.

Suck it, gbaji.

I'm going off what happened to me personally. I used a court appointed public defender once. I got charged about $100 for it (this was about 15 years ago though). I remember being very surprised about that as well since I'd assumed it was "free" too.

Maybe the law is different in your city. Maybe it depends on what you are charged with. I can't say for sure. All I know is that the one time I elected to use one, I most definately had to pay for it.

The show appeared twice during the 1988 season and 4 times in syndication. It wasn't the first or last I made the show. Did I ever tell you the time they busted down my door while I was watching the Mclaughlin Group? Wow that is a good episode. I'll save you guys the forum space, but if you get a chance it's on season 5 of Cops.

Maybe the law is different in your city but I can tell you that I had to pay up. Maybe it depends on if you appeared on Fox at some point in your life. I can't say for sure. All I know is that the one time I elected to use one, I most definately had to pay for it (although my Cops royalties paid for it).

I'd like more stories about your mixed past Gbaji!

Lol. I could tell you the story of the time I sold a guy his own beer...

Or the time I bribed a TJ cop, didn't have the exact amount, and asked for change back...

Good times!

What point are you trying to make? Or, in your haste to post, did you fail to notice in the sentence you bolded the phrase "if you cannot afford an attorney"?

What do you think happens when you *can* afford one?

And your parents certainly have never been mistaken before, ahaha!

(AH sitting at the computer yells over his shoulder) "Mommmm, Dadddd! Will I have to pay for the public defender for my drug arrest!?"

(AH's dad in the living room watching tv yells back) "No son, it's free!"
(Then to Mama AH) "Where did we go wrong?"

And, even if it came to the any rate, you were set up.
A victime
Of unbeknownst glasses in places of displayed public leh-zure.

And so we would have
Testified
Outright Lied

And evened the field.
One by one
Officer by officer

In beautiful chorus
All the while

Just for the simple smirk.

Thats actually a pretty good representation of what happened, jindo.

As for why the public defender? All the private attorneys were pretty pricey at 800 dollars or more, and all they promised to do is get me in a diversion program where it would be written off of my record. I'm sure I could do that myself. I figured even if the judge decided to crucify me I certainly wouldn't be paying much more than for a lawyer. Plus the prospect of having to pay for lawyer + a judgement against me wasn't too appealing.

Given that the free public defender got me off completely, I don't regret the decision at all.

I'm a teenager. I "know" my parents are mistaken all the time. I don't see any reason to doubt them anymore than if I had said, "I called up two attorneys and both of them said I don't have to pay for ****".
