Now, we all know that anyone that wants my POS car bad enough will find a way to take it, but in the meantime, I want to make it as time-consuming as possible since I have it all nice and paid off and don't have $$$ in the budget for a new one just yet. Most folks seem to recommend a layered approach, with some sort of visual deterrent and a kill switch of some sort. An alarm is noisy, but no real big deal as people ignore them all the time. Anyone out there have stuff they like? So far I'm looking at this with maybe this. No idea how I would install the starter kill or how much it would cost, tho.

You work at a hospital.

Get one of those medical waste disposal bags, and put in on the passenger seat.

Problem solved.

That's a fireable offense, along with sleeping on the job. No lie.
Besides, that's Jophiel's seat!!!

So snitch a hazsrdous waste sticker and put it on the bumper.

I don't know enough about how the second option works to give a valid opinion, sorry. pharm

The autolock is cheap enough, you could get it just to make yourself feel better, even it if doesn't work. This item is different than The Club, but I know The Club can be easily thwarted by cutting the steering wheel.

As for starter kill devices, or lojack devices...have those professionally installed. Find a reputable custom car company near you and take it in to have it done. The last thing you need is to try to install a device like that at home with no experience and end up frying your starter or something.

I agree completley about the alarms...they make lots of noise, but are essentially worthless.

It's all about making it more difficult.

In a perfect life it is, in reality, it can be thwarted pretty quick. I still would'nt completly discount their usefullness though...they may deter less crafty thugs.

The Club and other steering wheel and brake locks are fairly easily defeated by cutting the steering wheel or breake pedal. May stop some kids looking for a joy ride, but a pro stealing a car for parts will only be slowed a min or two.

Spend a few bucks and get an alarm with ignition kill.

Call up Best Buy for the install to see if they'll do it before you start scanning for places you never heard of.

I park in a garage that requires an i.d. badge or ticket to exit, so someone coming in on foot doesn't have an extra ticket. When they get someone with a lost ticket, they note the tags to make sure it isn't being stolen. Even with that, employees tell me they have had their radios and other valuables stolen.
I don't leave anything visible out of any value, and I have a manual transmission and a factory stereo. I's kind of not the first choice anyways, but I was looking for more of a visual deterrent.

I had my jeep stole last year it was missing for 28 days, 2 days short of me being able to collect the insurance on it. It sat in a grocery store parking lot with the window smashed and the ignition wires hanging out, there was a broken ***** driver lying on the driver seat.

So to not have your car stole; smash the passengers side window, place some bits of wires hanging from below the steering wheel and leave a screwdriver lying about. No worries.
