So I'm being blackmailed by SOEFollow

#1 Jun 08 2006 at 5:50 PM Rating: Decent
So I recently canceled my everquest 1 subsription and SOE charged for another 6 months anyway. My dad (the credit cards in his name) called his company and they took it off his bill. Now SOE won't allow me to log on to anything, EQ2, station access, anything, until we pay them for the everquest 1 subsricption that we canceled. We call the customer support and we have to jump through hoops to talk to anyone who knows what they're talking about and the CS lady in the call center in india and she refuses to connect us to a supervisor or anyone with any power.

Now I've been a paying customer of SOE for close to 5 years now and this is pathetic, how can they expect to run a business like this? They literally told us that I cannot do anything with my account until we pay them the $90 or so for the everquest subscription that we canceled.

And yes I posted this in the EQ2 forums, but they're barren, and it doesn't technically, completly apply to just a game.

I fail to see the blackmail portion of the problem.

Maybe the fact that they are refusing me service in area's unrelated to the problem until I pay them for a subscription I canceled. Sounds like blackmail to me.

Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary

Blackmail \Black"mail`\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Blackmailed; p.
pr. & vb. n. Blackmailing.]
1.To extort money from by exciting fears of injury other than
bodily harm
, as injury to reputation, distress of mind, etc.;
as, to blackmail a merchant by threatening to expose an
alleged fraud. [U. S.]

2. Payment of money exacted by means of intimidation; also,
extortion of money from a person by threats of public
accusation, exposure, or censure.

So, have they threatened you then? I guess taking away your gaming is a form of threat. Smiley: lol

Maybe he means they denied him service because he's a Black Male. In which case, he'd have a claim.

Lets look at this from their perspective:

-You pay many bills to them.
-You refuse to pay one of them (for whatever reason).
-Why shouldn't they think that you will default on your other bills?

It's really business 101.

Also, I think we're missing part of the story here as well.

Hmm, might it be causing distress by refusing me services that I have already shelled out money for until I give them more money? I think so.

Which bit of "Fu[Aqua][/Aqua]ck Off" are you struggling with here?

I payed for a 6 month subscription to EQ1 that was due up at the beginning of june, I decided that I did not want to renew the subscription and play EQ1 anymore, so I canceled my account and turned off the auto-renew on the subscription. Along comes june and a charge pops on the credit card statement for everquest 1, my dad calls and cancels the charge.

I try to log onto EQ2 and it gives me a timed out error, so I try to log onto station.com and it tells me there is a delinquet payment on my account and it has been suspended, and to call to call CS to get the details. So I call CS and am told that the EQ1 payment must be payed to get it lifted, no other options. I ask to talk to her supervisor and she says she is not allowed to do that at all, no matter the circumstances. I explain that I need to talk to someone who knows what they're talking about and she offers to send me a email explaining what I have to do.

So I get the email and it basically says pay the charge or my account will be suspended indefinately. They are bot allowing me access to services I have payed for because they made a mistake.

Anything else you want to know?

That was actually more than I wanted to know, personally. Try complaining in writing someplace where it matters. A letter from a lawyer'll cost ya $50. Quit wasting time, you whiny cnut.

You should burn your Dad's house down. That would really make SOE feel bad.

To be honest I can't understand how SOE can stay in business the way they do things.....it's like they let a bunch of inmates out of Guatamalan insane asylum and handed them over control of part of a major corporation.

How you came to that conclusion after reading the OP is beyond me.

You're saying he should be denied access to services that he has ALREADY PAID FOR, because he did not pay a bill for service he DID NOT RECEIVE?

Business 101? Jesus H Christ bro....get a grip
