What is more ridiculous is that you actually get your **** in a knot over it without reading the entire article.

Yeah, and rating you down is censorship. Big deal.
#4REDACTED, Posted: Jun 07 2006 at 3:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I read the whole article there queeny. There's nothing in the article that justifies sugesting martial law because of a moderatly high crime rate.

Wording of the one fellow aside, increased police presence isn't the same as martial law. Martial law is when a bona fide military presence takes over police activities. No one is saying we should send the army or National Guard out to patrol the streets with policing powers.

Nothing there to suggest martial law, however nothing there also to show that the plan has any support either. In fact the companion video clip shows that most of the council is quite opposed to anything resembling "martial law".

Which is why I find it ridiculous that you are getting all emotional about something that is not going to happen and which was shot down before it had wings.

I guess that's what you get when you try to discuss serious topics on an internet gaming forum. A whole bunch of children calling you names and not understanding what you're saying.

That'd have more teeth if not for the hundreds of serious threads on serious topics already in Forum=4.

All those years of university gone to waste, forshame!

Oh wait they weren't wasted, thanks to it I can think critically, read the source material and come to the conclusion that you are over reacting and sensationalizing the subject!

I think that a police state certainly "resembles" martial law. The only difference is that martial law is enforced by the miliary whereas a police state is enforced by secret police. Sure there's a difference, but not a significant one.

The fact that it was shot down doesn't detract from the fact that someone sugested it. I don't think that I've indicated that I think this was actually going to happen. You should pay attention to what people post before you put words in thier mouths.

People say crazy sh'it all the time. Take yourself for example. Am I wigging out? Nope.

Seriously this is low down on the scale, perhaps if it was Pat Robertson claiming that he prayed another hurricane away it might be chat worthy. A lone ward councilman in a crime plagued area of town calling for extreme measures to deal with it is not, especially when he is a lone voice.

Ya, let me rephrase it. You guys who avoid actual intelligent discussion give a bad name to this forum

well increased police presence is also different then a police state... and a police state is certainly closer to martial law then "increased police presnece".

This also came from the NewsNet5.com action team website, "News on Your Side", Window Check: No More Blankets, Garbage Bags Allowed

EUCLID, Ohio -- A new law in a Cleveland suburb is being called window dressing.

The Euclid City Council passed a law requiring residents to have proper window treatments that also must be hung properly.

People are no longer allowed to cover their windows with blankets, garbage bags or insulation.

Violators will receive warnings and could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. The law allows 15 days to remove or fix illegal window coverings. Landlords will be responsible for getting tenants to comply.

Councilman John Conway said the law will be complaint-driven so housing inspectors won't become "the fashion police." He proposed the measure after making the rounds with inspectors and hearing from residents.

When will this travesty of justice end?

Goddamn you Euclid City Council, Godamn you to hell for trampling on the constitutional rights of your citizens to hang Glad Bags as curtains.

Ohh the horror.

Notice that they said nothing about Tin-foil.

SLIPPERY SLOPE!!!

A dog is different from a cat and a cat is more like a tiger than a dog is so if you see a dog in someone's yard you should start screaming "Oh my God, a tiger!!" as loud as you can.

I remember listening to a lecture by my sisters boyfriend who has two degrees in sociology how appearance and maintenance of homes and community can help prevent crime. Made some really good points if only I could remember them.

I don't know if government enforced decor is the way to go but at least it will cut down on people that use confederate/US flag for curtains, thank Bob.

#22REDACTED, Posted: Jun 07 2006 at 4:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) joph, the similarity between a police state and martial law is that they can both be used to supersede ones rights. therefor when compared to increased police presence, it puts them in a different catagory.
