Democracy is a mob rule system. The majority gets to rule the minority and dominate them as much as they want. That's why America is a republic.

I think it's an insult to freedom for people to be able to rate your post to sub default so that it gets hidden from view. In my opinion, the utility in having an internet forum is in allowing people of apposing views and opinioins to debate freely without censure.

Well then, consider your freedom insulted.

(A) So start your own forum and don't censor anyone. Behold the powers of teh intrawebz!

(B) Set your filter to "never filter" and -- viola! -- instant-uncensoring!

I think it's an insult to my freedom for people to tell me what I can and cannot rate down.

Rate down.

from what I understood "never filter" doesn't mean your post can't be rated, it just means that you don't filter our posts that have been rated. Thus only select people can see your post if it's been rated down and that's censureship.

And that's fine if that's the way they want to do it, I just think it's stuipid.

That's censorship in the same way that my deciding not to turn on Comedy Central is censorship. Smiley: dubious

the forum political model is akin to a police/nanny state military dictatorship with a token constitutional oligarchy in the background. I'll be your dictator for the evening. Would you prefer smokeing or non smokeing crater?

Why do you want to infringe upon my right to express my opinion via ratings on a internet chat forum!!!

I would see how that would be the case if the default filter was to leave everything up. But for the average joe I come to the forum every so often shmoe... they don't know about the filter system and thus can't see them.
