I think the thing that is keeping us calm is that she acts and plays like normal. Other than the brusing, you couldn't tell that anything was wrong with her. My mother is freaking out (her first grandchild) but I'm keeping pretty calm for the most part.

Looking forward to a day to play with her actually :) I'll have to remember not to play as rough.

They called her condition ITP, or Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, which according to the link is an autoimmune bleeding disorder. It sounds like most of the cases (90%) are acute, and go away but the other 10% are chronic.

We'll see.

I had that, in my case I also had red blood vessels bursting all over the bottom layer of my skin causing me to look all red spotty like.

Good news is that it went away after about 2 weeks or so. (then again at the time I was a kid so it may have been a bit shorter or longer)

However, hang in there and my thoughts are with you both.

Any news, Wint?

We have been giving her oral steroids over the weekend, started Friday evening. I have my first day of class today, but when I get out I'm picking her up and taking her to the Dr. for another blood test. If the platelets are up, we'll keep going with the steroids. If they're down, we have to go talk to the hemotologist about the IV treatments.

She still is brusing pretty easily, Saturday morning she was really excited to see us when we came in to get her from her crib, and missed the bars with her hands but caught herself with her face. Nice bruise on her cheek and chin, and the red spots that wwdragon was talking about. She was brusing easily when her platelets were at 26,000, so that's not really any measure of wether it's working or not.

Crossing my fingers that they're up, I hate having to have her get poked and prodded, every time a drawer is opened in the exam room she starts grabbing on to my shirt for dear life because she's expecting a needle :(

=(

I loathe taking my son to the doctor for this reason. I think I cry more than he does.

My mother was a nurse, so she used to give us all our shots. As a side benefit, it kept us fearful and obedient with her!

Yeah, okay, not really.

Test is in, after 3 days of steroids her platelets went from 14,000 to 71,000 so we're in the clear. They want us to stop steroids and they're going to test her one more time in a week but hopefully we'll be done after that :)

And the Asylum breathes a sigh of relief, comforted by the fact that they no longer have to listen to Wint drivel on about his brat. Who the f[Aliceblue][/Aliceblue]uck is Wint anyway?

They told us to hang on to it in case she needs it, but I am a little curious as to what it is like.

Asylumites may be tough on the surface, but once a little darling is sick or hurt, the Asylumites are just a bunch of softies.

And apparently, Wint is a doting daddy, that's who the fu[blue]ck you are.

I'm so happy for you guys that she's ok, Wint. I'd have gone mad with worry after hearing something like that from the doctors.

I don't know that steroids are a big seller with the rave crowd, so make sure you say they're "X".

I'm really glad to hear your little peanut is doing better.
