Good luck wint. What could I possibly say: I have no children - I hope I'd be able to understand but until I do I can't really say I know what you're going through right now.

Best wishes. I'm sure she'll be healthy and playing video games with you in no time!

26,000 ouch, I am sure its just some silly infection and once that clears up the numbers will jump back up. From all the pictures I have seen of you (avatar, albums, etc) she seems to be a HUGE part in your life, good luck and all the best.

That's about the best way I can describe it.

I won't pray for you guys though, mainly because Bob has shown that whatever he has planned is going to happen regardless of how hard you pray or promise to never touch drugs or hookers again if he listens just this once. I will, however, cross my fingers, kill a rabbit and take it's foot, stuff a 4-leaf clover in my cap, and hope your daughter gets well.

Sounds like some scary **** and you seem to be taking it much better than I would. Way to hold it down. Best to you and your family mate.

Recent onset?

Almost certainly time-limited, just to make you feel inadequate as a parent Smiley: wink2

I'm sorry to hear this Wint Smiley: frown I'll keep your cuttie pie in my prayers.

I've always bruised easily, as did my mom and my girls. Right now my left thigh has several from just carrying the bags they gave at the convention, over the weekend. I have far more long skirts to wear then shorts in the summer just to cover them.

Just to be safe make sure the doctors keep good records. I thankfully only once had to deal with Protective Services about the bruises on my girls and was able to get it clear it up right away. Their bottoms has been black and blue from taking ice and rolling skating lessons that summer.

An update. We got a call from the Dr, she wanted to try oral steroids first (the same kind given to kids with asthma), and to examine her next week at an appointment. However, while changing her this morning we noticed some red spots which are also indicative of this illness. She had told us to let her know if we saw them so now we're waiting for another call back.

The good news is her red and white blood cells are all normal, so we can rule out anything scary like leukemia.

She's been bruising worse than normal for about 3 months Nobby, it sounds like this thing will run its course in 3-6 months so maybe we're on the downhill slide.

Our daycare documents her bruises very well, they provide us with "accident reports" that we hang on to just in case. Sometimes you worry about taking her in to Target or the grocery store and having some busy-body soccer mom following us around the store on her cell phone with social services.

Oops, the phone just rang, they want us to bring her in to see the spots.

Yes Nads, I had considered the alien baby angle, we'll see what they say at the Dr's today :)

Thank god, that's what I was worrying about, not that I would mention it (I'm not Eldy, haha, sorry...had to say it).

Let us know what you find out!

I'm sorry this happened, Wint. Nothing makes a person feel as helpless as a health crisis to a loved one, and much more so when the loved one is as cute and tiny as yours. I hope this passes quickly and relatively uneventfully, and I'm sending good thoughts your way.

I have to say for the record that I admire your capacity (and your wife's) to keep calm and deal with the situation as it evolves. A parent is a child's whole world, and sometimes, even children who may be ill are made to feel even worse by parents who decide to make it a personal tragedy over focusing on what the child may need to overcome and keep feeling healthy as possible throughout. Good job on your parenting skillz. You can't control everything, but what you can control, you're kicking *** at.

Ok, we're going to do the oral steroids and do another CBC on Monday, if they're still falling we go to the hemotologist. Until then we just be careful with her, but the Dr didn't think we needed to worry about her bleeding into her brain with her platelets at 14,000, the Dr says she's seen much lower counts.

So really not much to worry about I think, the Dr seemed confident that the oral steroids would clear it up.

thank you for keeping us updated, Wint. It sounds like the Dr isnt overly concerned and no overnight hospital visits is always a good sign. My thoughts will continue to be with you guys. Keep us posted

I am so sorry Wint. I am glad it is seeming to be not as bad as previously thought. You and your child are certainly in my thoughts.

On a side note, someone mentioned something about the Vaccine Compensation Program....I had no idea that existed. The year it was released (1986) I went into anaphylactic shock from a DPT immunization and have had several health issues related to it. I haven't had a tetanus shot since; I hope their are no rusty nails in my future. It was apparently a common problem with DPT shots in the 80s, so much so that they changed the formula. Too bad the statute of limitations has run, heh.

To my knowledge, the main purpose of steroid treatment is to supress the immune system for whatever reason. It seems to generally be quite effective.
