Hi all....

bit of a family crisis and coming to you all for help.

My brother (32yrs young) commited suicide on Saturday. I am trying to come up with a CD of music to play for him during the ceremony. I am not looking for weepy gospel or traditional hymms but for contemporary music most folks in his age bracket can relate to. As a bit of backstory on him he was a lover of music from depeche mode and ministry to George Jones and the Beatles ... semi pro skate boarder and and all round hell of a guy. Thoughts?

You only need one song, but you can't have it because I'm playing it at my own funeral.

How could he commit suicide when the Oilers made the final?

Smiley: confused

Primus - Bob Lyrics
I had a friend that took a belt, took a belt and hung himself
Hung himself in the doorway of the apartment where he lived
His woman and his little bro came home from the grocery store
Only to find him dangling in the apartment where he lived

I had a friend who shaved his head
Put his Doctor Martins on
And drew such wondrous pictures in the apartment where he
lived
He praised my creativity, though he spoke sarcastically
Oh, the conversations in the apartment where he lived

I had a friend that took a belt, took a belt and hung himself
Hung himself in the doorway of the apartment where he lived
Rock, she thought him spiteful; Ler, he thought him pitiful
Me, I've never been back to the apartment where he lived

You could play something by Kansas; "Carry On my Wayward Son" would be good, or of course, "Dust in the wind".

You're my boy, Blue!

Come to think of it, Pink's "God is a DJ" would probably work. You could all breakdance as you lead the coffin out.

Quote:
If God is a DJ
Life is a dance floor
Love is the rhythm
You are the music
If God is a DJ
Life is a dance floor
You get what you're given
It's all how you use it

Thanks for taking the time to repond folks but I think I posted in the wrong forum. This is a serious question and I was looking for serious answers. I'm sitting here by myself looking for help as my mind is a little full with other issues and I get "Breakdance down the aisle"

nice

On a more serious note, I'll Fly Away on the Oh Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack is a really pretty song, but not too weepy. It is even in some hymnal or another, so it can be played in a church service. Baptist maybe? I know it is not Presbyterian or Episcopalian.

I've heard this in baptist churches.

Damn good soundtrack. Down to the River to Pray is my favorite song on the cd. I swoon for Alison Krauss. Smiley: inlove

To the OP, I hear Best Time of Our Lives is used at funeral services for those who leave us too early.

What a strange coincidence - I was grouped with a cool guy in EQ2 last night on the newbie island whose brother had recently passed away. I don't know the details about it, but it was quite a bummer.

Anyhoo, I'm sorry for your loss. Smiley: frown

Back From The Dead - House of Pain

Straight out the casket, rising up
Open up your eyes, cant you see me
What the fu[Aqua][/Aqua]ck is this madness
Pick up my bones
Erase my name from off the tombstones
Alive and kicking
Breathin the air
Call out my name punk
And Ill be there
No question
My suggestion to the action
Caught smack dab in the middle of the blastin
Messin with me
Youre messin with the best
Bleow, youre takin to shots to the chest

cause Im back from the dead
Everlasts comin back from the dead[back from the dead]
You know Im back from the dead
And Ill put a friggin hole in your head
Back from the dead
Back from the dead

You cant disrespect it
Im the resurrected
Back from the dead
Just to mess with your head
Ill stress what I said
But I wont repeat it
If youve got a cold, starve it
If youve got a fever, feed it
And if you cant feed it
Then why not blow
You might be positive
And not even know
I rock the hardcore
From the floor to the ceilin
I give sexual healin
Ill get your girlie squealin
Like a pig
My graves somethin you can never dig
Ill rock a mausoleum
Backyard a colosseum

cause Im back from the dead
Everlasts comin back from the dead[back from the dead]
You know Im back from the dead
House of pains in effect, nuff said

Skip the autopsy
cause I never o.d.d
I only puff boom kid
I never get skeed
I dont sniff or shoot up
Rip Ill stick my boot up
Your *** quick fast
Everlast dont jive
Just like pearl jam
Im still alive[sample of rumors by timex social club]
Spreadin like tumors
Gossip and lies
Exaggerated reports of my demise
And if you believed em
Well then you got gassed
The media deceived em
Just like in the past

cause Im back from the dead
Everlasts comin back from the dead[back from the dead]
You know Im back from the dead
And Ill put a friggin hole in your head
Back from the dead
Back from the dead

Like steven segal
Im hard to kill
And like g.g. allen
Im crazy ill
Ill beat ya down with my mic
Kick your *** with my nike
Bust ya in the eye
If ya tell another lie
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Thinkin Im dead
You must be smokin dust
Come see me bust in the flesh
Its a must

cause Im back from the dead
Everlasts comin back from the dead[back from the dead]
You know Im back from the dead
House of pains in effect, nuff said

Heaven Is A Half Pipe

If I die before I wake
At least in Heaven I can skate
Cause right now on Earth I can't do jack
Without the man up on my back

Now Heaven would be a dj just spinnin' up all night long
And Heaven would be just kickin' back with Jesus packing my bong
And if you don't believe in Jesus, Mahomad or Buddha too
And while the world is warin' we just sit back and laugh at you
Singin'

If I die before I wake
At least in Heaven I can skate
Cause right now on earth I can't do jack
Without the man up on my back

Wow when most people think of Heaven,
They see those pearly gates
But I looked a little closer and there's a sign that says "Do Not Skate"
So if you wanna come to my Heaven
Well, we all gonna have a ball
And everyone you know is welcome
Cause we got no gates or walls
Singin'

If I die before I wake
At least in Heaven I can skate
Cause right now on Earth I can't do ****
Without the man f**kin' with it

Then I got up to the gate
They pulled out list that I've been callin' fake
"I'm sorry, friend, you can't come in
you gotta list here that doesn't end"

You're mad because I smoked dope
Ain't teachin' any classes in how to cope
I find a place to rest my head
I'd rather be alone now that I'm dead

Seemann - Rammstein

Komm in mein Boot
ein Sturm kommt auf
und es wird Nacht

Wo willst du hin
so ganz allein
treibst du davon

Wer hält deine Hand
wenn es dich
nach unten zieht

Wo willst du hin
so uferlos
die kalte See

Komm in mein Boot

Komm in mein Boot
die Sehnsucht wird
der Steuermann

Komm in mein Boot

die Zeit steht still
und mir ist kalt

Very sad and sweet song by the way it is sung in German.

Edit: Don't expect anything serious from the Asylum.. :) Too much to ask out of the regulars.

Sometimes, it's truly frightening how much we think alike, Debalic. Words right out of my mouth (fingers?).

Goodnight - Dry Kill Logic

Now that I,
Face the world with pain inside.
Only I,
Can't understand the reasons why.
Forever is,
A word that I cannot desribe,
That died the time we said goodnight.

It makes no difference, wrong or right.
The time has come to say goodnight.

And how could I,
Be so sure but be so wrong?
And how could I,
Have a will so weak with a mind so strong?
And only I,
can tell the difference, right or wrong.

It makes no difference, wrong or right.
The time has come to say goodnight.
It makes no difference, wrong or right.
I guess it's best we say goodngiht.
