EQ2 got fixed. It is now so vastly different that its hard to list all the changes. It is now playable and enjoyable.

For anyone looking to join up and play here are the specifics

Why EQ2? WoW is great but its pretty much a solo game except for instances. EQ2 is still solo friendly but grouping is encouraged so it means more playing together. Plus with the mentor function its easy for people to group together regardless of level.

What Server - Blackburrow (PvE Normal)

What City - Freeport or Qeynos, it doesnt matter. We can group with you either way.

Who is Playing - DSD, Sickabilly (her husband), Lamnethx (wow boards), Billian, Git has made an appearance and then there is little ole me. It's not a huge big group, but its growing.

Who is Welcome - Anyone, no matter the board. Obviously not varus or obvious trolls like him but other than that its fairly open.

Do you have a guild - Nope. Just a dedicated channel that we use much like guild chat. All the fun, none of the drama.

Feel free to dust off your EQ2 boxes and log in and play (DF, Kaolian, Nadenu etc) and for those interested in joining go pick up the EQ2 + KoS bundle for 29.99, come give us a shout.

While it is tempting, I'm better off without any game addictions in swing right now. I'm just too busy.

Now if winter comes around and Vanguard isn't out, I may be tempted.

So much. It's a perfect combo of soloing/groupinng now. When the game first came out, it felt like a major grind session that quickly became boring. They have gotten rid of that feeling. You can quest, you can solo, you can group up and do dungeons with others. The one thing I love about the game is the mentoring system. Im lvl 62 in the game, but I can mentor down to anyones level as long as they are at least lvl 10 and group up with them. They also get an added xp bonus when I do that. So you can play with your friends no matter how high/low they are. End game content is great because there is no end game. Im still too young to raid with *my* particular guild. But there are raid mobs out there starting in the low 20's, so its not like you have to wait to the high end for different kinds of fun.

If youre from EQ1 you remember that raids were contested. In EQ2 there are a couple that still are, but many are instanced raids, allowing you and your guild to pop in, kill your raid target, and pop out without the whole dungeon crawl. There are lock out timers on these to ensure the targets do not get over farmed, ranging from 18 hours to 7 days.

Expansions and adventure packs continue to come out fairly regularly, for all levels to enjoy. Next one is due in Nov, and its the return of Faydwer. Kelethin returns in all its glory, and it has been hinted it will again be a beginning city, jus like in EQ. Last expansion added the same idea as AA points in EQ1, or talent trees in WoW, starting at lvl 20. So even when you hit your highest lvl, you still gain AAs.

Im not going to hound you guys to play, but if you ever do want to check it out, come to Blackburrow and let me or Bhod know. We'll get you in our chat channel and answer any questions you have, plus we can group up and show you around.

Get the stores up here in HickVille to start carrying EQ2 gamecards and I'd get back in, wasn't a bad game when I left it and I've only heard good things lately.

- Pick your class right off the bat. No more waiting until lvl 20.

- resource nodes now actually let you know what you are gathering. Coffee bush drops coffee, etc. No more anonymous nodes like before.

- no more subcombines in crafting

- addition of a lot of solo content at all levels.

-griffon towers in TS and Nek forest for easy transportation

-rest xp, much like wow

-i understand a lot of changes to the broker system, as well git mentioned they didnt havea mail system when he played which they now have.

Plus all the content added by the two expansion such as the Achievement Point system that DSD mentioned, which you can only gain xp for by exploration and questing (which helps encourage people to explore and quest rather than straight grind xp)

There is more but those are the ones that come to mind first.

Although my toons are primarily on Antonia Bayle, I'd be happy to create a toon on Blackburrow to hook up.

While I enjoy the speed of the scout classes, I'm really digging playing a monk. I'll roll up a Dwarven Monk. Dwarven man-boobs ftw! Smiley: yikes

This is so damn true. I wish Sony wouldn't be such tightwad bastards about toon limits. Sure, maybe with the limits I might actually get a toon leveled up, but I really want to test out all kinds of class/race combos and even with my 10 limit, I'm hating to have to sacrifice another toon to do so. Smiley: motz

Is the wheel of torture in the game, or whatever it was called?

I remember groups not being able to coordinate on that and falling apart. "Why didn't you do your x spell? You ruined the wheel!" "Huh, what are you talking about?" "We didn't finish the wheel, and it's your fault!" "We killed it, anyway." "But playerx died!" "The wheel's stupid anyway." "No, we have to do the wheel, or we'll never kill monsterx." "Okay, how do you do wheels again???"

That was part of the prob for me soloing. Not only did it take too long (did they change that?), the fights were all the same. The classes were all sort of the same. Summoned pets didn't hold agro, casters had no root... no snare that worked.

Anyway, I'd be amazed if they made it better.

The wheel is gone?

I played when the game came out... then felt "stuck" in it (bought months worth assuming I'd like it).

I had such a bad experience. Clicking to open doors in the trade instances... became so irritating... the things that bugged me were legion.

I'd be amazed if the game were playable now.

(a lot of my post count is from the eq2 site here - me foaming at the mouth against the game)

no, its not needed at all. And there are so many classes that work together you dont need "the perfect group" to get anything done. Most of the time, SK ( my hubby) and I can go out as a bruiser, monk, and bring out my fury (druid) and take on yellow heroic ( group mobs) with no issue. Infact thats basically how I leveled the entire way. You can solo to 70, or duo, have a half group or a full... it doesnt matter!!! You grab who you can and just go, or go off on your own. I never use the wheel when grouped, but it does pack a decent damage when soloing. You can do it or not, it wont matter

the wheel isnt gone, but its not needed as it used to be before.

By the way, for all those who have started it up again, a nice little tip to make things easier. When you want to interact with a PC, or open doors, loot objects, or zone in, put your mouse over it and hit the letter F. This will automatically do what you want to do instead of right clicking and then clicking the option. Big time saver

ZOMG, I'm posting!

Reasons I spend (way) more time on EQ2 than WoW:

1. WoW is pretty boring. My threshold is about 60 minutes before I begin to fall asleep. Though I attribute this to my selection of a Hunter (1. Send in pet, 2. Fire arrows, 3. Alt-Tab to IE and check the Red Sox score, 4. Alt-Tab and loot corpse).

2. I've never been a fan of the Warcraft graphic styles. The realism of EQ2s graphics allows me a level immersion I don't feel in WoW. Obviously, this is a personal preference ... but it's likely the biggest difference for me.

3. I know more people in EQ2 and you all are strangers! (Though DSD occasionally says something nice about one or two of you)

4. Lore. Sure, it's kinda geeky - but after so many years of EQ, I know the places, the gods, the items, etc. It's cool to see some of that revisited in EQ2.

5. Raid encounters are limited to 24 people. This means 1) content and difficulty is very finely tuned, 2) it's easy to get a core of people that work well together, 3) less competition for lewts, and 4) there is much less chance of 50 DKP minus idiots.

Reasons I still like to log on WoW every once in a while (provided I can get past "handshaking"):

1. It loads really quick (at least, for the 50% of the time that the servers aren't down or there is some mysterious authentication issue). I can go from my desktop to in-game within 15 seconds most of the time, which is way cool.

2. It's zoneless. I give Blizzard big props for designing the game without using loading screens.

3. The ability to turn off general chat channels so I don't get too annoyed by my fellow players.

4. I'm a sucker.

5. DSD makes me.

The rest is a wash, since EQ2 has stolen many many ideas from WoW in the past 18 months.
