Warmav made a good point way early in the thread and it's this.....the words gay and ****** have taken on a new meaning in modern slang....and honestly most of the time they have nothing to do with sexuality. Meanings of words change and adapt overtime, and while those two words can be used to describe a homosexual person that does not mean that this is how it was used in that particular situation.

I call my friends ******* all the time, and it has nothing to do with sexuality. Essentially I am just calling them a$$holes. I would have to say that most of the times that these words are used in MMO it has little to nothing to do with sexuality.

I was busy playing WoW, so I missed this gem. Just skimmed over it and did my rating part. Smiley: grin

For the record Sabo, I most likely would have said something about the bashing. Things like that drive me absolutely nuts.

Simply put - this is why these games have a minimum age required to play. I shouldn't suffer because mommy and daddy can't pay attention to what the f[aqua][/aqua]uck little Tommy is doing all day in his room.

Buy the kid a damn **** magazine but if I'm forced to listen to any profanity (including racial, sexual, and species related slurs) from those of obviously limited brain capacity I'm going to say something and report it. That's not to say that I'm one to report every time someone says "damn" but some stand out in a crowd more then others.

Sabo's incident: would qualify. Had it been PvP I would have smitten them with my pride sword. I'm not gay but I have every right to be prideful as the next orange, 3 foot tall, giraffe and I'll slaughter anyone who bashes me for it.

(k, my shtick as you like to call it: sarcasm. Deal with it)

The best way to deal with bigots is to show them how stupid they look.

I normally will do it with humor when the statements are directed at me.

Next few idiots that make a comment about how wried my voice sound, will get answer in baby talk. It works so well with my 9 month old grandchild, when she is tired.

I couldn't be bothered to read all the replies, but I skimmed those I give a sh[Aqua][/Aqua]it about. As for the OP, I don't see it as the huge tragedy you made it out to be Sab. Yes, it's definitely in poor taste, and certainly not to be condoned. However, it was an incident in a game which, sorry to say, automatically lowers the real impact of the situation. If we get so PC that we have to watch every move made with a bunch of pixels in a virtual world, well then it becomes something that I don't want to spend my time with.

Not to say I go around in game hate-mongering, but if I decide to start razzing someone and call them teh ghey in jest I don't want to be bothered with the Rainbow Police hiding around the corner waiting to pounce with fingernails at the ready.

Sabo, you are a big fat flaming ****. Deal with it. Reporting these people instead of ignoring them is just validating their actions. If they had been real people stick whipping a real ****, you would have been well serverd to call a cop. Reporting to a GM "offensive behavior" is p'ussified and I personally lose a little respect for you for having done it.

You know I love t3h ****, sabo. You're cute people with a knack for snazzy dressing and clever turns of a phrase. When you get your nuts in a twist over petty sh'it like this though, you're no better than a ghetto trash welfare ***** complaining that the guv'ment is holding her down while still cashing the check she gets on the 1st and the 15th and using the cash to by a nice FUBU jacket or shiny new spinners for the Escalade instead of working for a better life.

Don't trivialize yourself over meaningless sh'it.

How is it validating their actions?

Wouldn't not saying anything, or actively supporting, go much further towards the end of validating their actions?

Just sayin'.

What did your mother tell you about kids who picked on you when you were little? I know, its a silly question now, especially to people on a MMOG site since most of them are too young to have had a parent who was worth a sh'it. When I was little, my mom told me to ignore them. If they get no reaction, they will get bored and move on. It wasn't because I was littler and easily picked on, it was because I was bigger and could likely have bloody-pulped any of them. They were ignored, they got bored and moved on.

Most people who play these games act out online because they feel like they can without repercussion. They get to experience the feeling of superiority they typicly lack in real life (the 13 year old BNet kiddies who "pwn j00!", the 30 year old basement dweller who validates himself through his online life, etc.) They feed on the reaction. Reacting to them validates them.

Its as simple a concept as "Don't feed the f'ucking trolls", but I wouldn't expect most of you to understand that one, either.

A fine concept but trying to apply it to an ingame situation of reporting is childish in itself.

Getting the GF to play video games especially a MMO, is not as cool as it sounds.

In fact I would avoid it at all costs if you live together.

Earth and Beyond actually.

It was gayer than a greek bathhouse.

FFXI was just sad, lame and childish.

That or a second computer, she was cutting into my play time! She did really suck though, and she would get frustrated. Then being a stupid guy I would try to give her tips and she felt I was treating her like a child and got resentful. Then I ended up sleeping on the couch.

Bad times.

Not a problem. Smiley: laugh Not only do I mock him mercilessly for it (don't worry, I give him plenty of fodder in my own down-time, but nothing I'll share), when Joph is on the computer playing MMO's, I'm usually asleep. I **** out around ten and pop up around 6:45-7am, usually. This weekend he marvelled that I 'slept in' until 9am.

Ok, I agree with you 110% on E&B. The combat system made the damned thing near unplayable. And pink tentacled space monsters? gh3y.

Pretty much how I feel about it. The "ignore it and it will go away" principle only goes so far.

Especially in a game with rule of conduct with enforcable punishments for violations.
