Out of the handful of posts that I have made in the Asylum I have yet to run into any problems. I find their posts mainly amusing. The reason you probably feel this way is because you pissed the majority of them off and now they dont like you.

Niobia, what in the HELL are you talking about? I don't make fun of people for factors outside of their control. Next time, before you decide to flame someone based solely on what boards on the internet they choose to post on, you might want to get to know something about them. I go out of my way to defend everyone I think is being treated unfairly and undeservedly. Everything from Pride Warrior last night in CoH to the Asylumites ganging up on Kaolian. Any time I think someone is being unfairly treated, I speak up.

Why didn't you speak up then about it? Did I miss something, but seems to me you are bashing people for not speaking up then and there, yet you didn't. You quietly sent a message to a GM is that correct?

If I missed the part where you publically denounced the actions, my bad. Just curious.

Bad analogy simply because Gay Advocacy groups use the term "Gay" Black Advocacy groups don't use the term "******".

Consider yourself fortunate for my reply to your post as I generally don't reply to posters who are too lazy to put forth the effort to make a good looking post.

That said, in this day and age, minding your own business is an exact science. Here is a little peice of knowledge. Calling someone a ***, and they get /butthurt then the rest of the world is ready and willing to kiss it and make it feel better. No, not on my watch. I could care less if anyone gets butthurt because someone called them a name. Boohoo, deal with it.

Sure it's apathetic, but it is that way out of neccesity. It isn't my fight. I am not gay, I don't have any gay RL friends(to my knowledge) and even if I did, I'd expect them to be man enough not to get all flustered over someone calling them a petty name.

After talking with my neighbors about the same issue, they said the same. They don't care eitherway about it. If I asked all of the people I know(except my mother, she supports gay rights, but she is a Dem anyway) they would more than likely say the same.

Is it right to torture and tease anyone for any reason? No, and any civilized person would say the same. The person in question 'Pride Warrior' was tortured probably by highschool kids with little else to do but make themselves feel better and a release from their own prepubacent sexual frustrations by attempting to bring Pride Warrior down.

Though if I seen it happening I wouldn't have got involved, however most people that exhibit this type of behavior are either A. Teenagers, B. Ignorant as sh[Cyan][/Cyan]it, or C. A mixture of both.

I am not General Lee, I won't die just on any hill.

Hey Devildawg, I'm sure you have more important things to square away that don't involving picking on 14 year olds.

Ouch, Devildawg, you sure do know how to land the low blows.

Yeah, it bears noting that the use of "gay" and "******" among heterosexuals is often not used in the context of sexuality, but just as a general derogatory term, often used to insult someone's taste or prowess. It's become as universal as ******* you might say. Of course, it could have been a sexuality issue, but I wouldn't jump to the conclusion based on the information given.

I strongly agree with this. I often feel that, in this day and age, we (Americans, anyways) are a nation of pussies (meow!). We worry about other people's feelings so much and we baby anyone who gets even a little bit hurt over some words. It goes right along with the "everyones a winner" mentality we shine upon the youth, which protects feelings too much and leaves them too soft and unable to cope with everyday hardships later on in my opinion.

As I come back to this thread and read the new posts, I find that time has given me a little more clarity on the issue. I would still call the GM in this situation, because Pride Warrior was obviously upset. But at the same time, I'm not entirely certain that he should be upset, or even surprised. I mean, he made a rainbow-clad character named "Pride". He's announcing to the (virtual) world that he's different and giving people an excuse to hate on him.

If you made a tan character with a mustachio, overalls, and a picture of a taco on your shirt should you be shocked to be called "wet back"? Or if you made a black guy with an afro and a watermelon/chicken leg brand, would be you be surprised to hear the "N word"? He made a character who sounds to be the embodiment of homosexual stereotypical symbol. He made from of himself from day 1 when he created his character as far as I'm concerned, and shouldn't be getting bent out of shape because someone else is now doing it. This wasn't a character in "normal" attire whose real-life sexual-tendencies were found out somehow.

Again, I would call the GM because I think its wrong to hurt another person and its not like calling a GM takes a lot of effort. But I also think its wrong to announce that you're different if you can't take the backlash. I felt a little bit sorry for Pride Warrior in my original post way up top, but not now. Toughen up or don't put yourself at the mercy of others people. Its a life lesson everyone should've learned in elementary school. Yeah, in a perfect world we could all be open about the things others might attack us for, but this isn't such a place. Besides, it's only a videogame.

It really sucked this happened. Human sentiment is a slow process. Forty years ago we might have witnessed a similar event against Erudites (if there were MMO's with Erudites then, eh) while gay people were still intorerably stuck in the closet.

I have to ask; Did you do anything?

I know it little consolation but from my perspective it seems tolerance of all sorts of different people is on the rise and events like this, while still far too numerous, are decreasing. Hopefully the offenders will be punished, at least showing that the behavior is unacceptable.

Have heart, people are smartening up, though there will always be ignorant dummies around.

You are a waste of humanity.

Seriously, think about it. Maybe if you are smart enough you will understand why I am right, though I doubt it.

Where most people are content to rant about things which are real, Niobia creates her own mental realities to conform to her inane ranting.

There's no real understanding it.

The fact that a bunch of you are defending gay bashing (or any other public display of blatant discrimination) because it's simply too much bother to care about is really pretty pathetic. Tolerating words and acts of discrimination = encouragement of and silent participation in discrimination.

I understand, honest. You're straight. You're white. People who get tired of hate speech and dare to speak against it are simply being thin skinned. If everyone would just be like you we wouldn't have these problems.

I really don't care if you're gay or not.

But can someone please tell me from the other side of the spectrum: Why is being gay wrong?
