Countries worst drivers!

Rhode Island is the dumbest, Oregon is the smartest.

Article wrote:
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - The tiny state of Rhode Island still ranks rock bottom in terms of driving knowledge, according to a national test conducted by GMAC Insurance. Oregon drivers answered the most questions correctly.

The test revealed that about one in 11 licensed drivers in the United States would fail a state drivers test, according to GMAC Insurance.

Rhode Island ranked last year, also, with an average score of 77. Last year, Oregon's average score was 89, which still placed at the top of the rankings that year.

Based on average scores, northwestern states generally ranked highest while the bottom-ranking states were mostly in the northeast. One exception was Vermont, which ranked third. Washington state drivers ranked second. Drivers in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia ranked at the bottom, with D.C. finishing just ahead of Rhode Island.

The 20-question test was based on questions asked in state driver's license examinations. A score of 70 or higher is required to pass a standard state test.

The failure rate for drivers in northeastern states was about 16 percent, according to GMAC Insurance. The failure rate for drivers in northwestern states was from one to seven percent.

The test and an accompanying survey were completed by 5,288 licensed drivers including at least 100 from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The survey asked about responses to specific driving situations.

(Cheat alert: The following paragraph includes some answers to the test.)

Approximately one in three drivers said they usually do not stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. At least one out of five drivers did not know that pedestrians in a crosswalk have the right of way. At least one in five also did not know that roads are most slippery when it first starts to rain after a dry spell.

State-by-state rankings

This is a perfect example of one the latest advertising ploys. Make up some b.s. survey creating standings or comparisons between different groups, like State residency, then get it picked up by the press. Hook, line, sinker.

I remember noticing that people on the other side of the Hudson River (Kingston, NY) were worse drivers than on my side (Poughkeepsie), much less other states. The only other place I've been enough to judge is Ohio. They're not bad drivers, just a little slow in general.

I'll vouch for how bad those jersey drivers are. Hell, they are worse then the drunk bosnian cop i saw driving one night. Oh, i know he was drunk cause during his swerving he was hitting all the pot holes in the dirt road we made them to replace the one we took. Either that or he was testing his suspension.

Live hour from philly so i get to see lots of jersey people :/

few judgement questions that are different in each state so are not fair for the test, but still any one who can not score at least 85% on this test does not have a clue how to drive by the rules of the road.

more important then knowing the rules is being able to pay attention and the ability to controll your vehical at all times.

id rather be in a vehical with someone who does not know the rules as well as they can controll their vehical vs the opposite.

think old person who knows the rules, but has slower then normal reflex reaction time and thus can not safely controll their car at the speeds they are driving.

According to teh National Drivers Safety Association the average reflex time is 4.5 seconds...

hello, in that time frame you are DEAD. that average comes from the national average due to age... yes we have more old people driving then should be thus the higher reflex time.

what the NDSA calls reflex time = time to see, plane, and react properly to the situation. this also has a lot to do with more and more people being on cell phones while they drive.

personally my reflex time, as tested, is under .33 sec and the average time for a driver between the ages of 25 - 45 is generaly under 1sec., but can be as high as 2 sec.

still kind of scary when you think about it.

Your scored 23 out of a possible 35 (attempted 35).

Mostly terminology, really. At least that one gives you all the answers afterwards.

If I'm honest, that test is lame compared to the US one.

And if you've never driven here, 23 ain't bad.

But you ain't borrowing my car any time soon, Mad Max

Woah! What's that a grade chart for? Grade school? High School? Some random school you attend? Or all schools in the country?

Cause that's an awfully forgiving set of numbers. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but when I went to school, an A was 90-100%, B was 80-89, C was 70-79, a D was 60-69, and an F was anything lower then that. Plusses and minuses were added on if people wanted to, but still applied within those range. So an A- was 90-92 maybe, and an A+ was 98-100.

I've never heard of an 80% being called an "A" (whether an A- or not, that's still an A). That's just ridiculous. Where do you go to school? Mickeymouseland?

So in Canada, you guys actually have a 20% range that gives you an "A" grade? But the others are all 10% in size? Doesn't that kinda... skew grades?

Just asking. Is this some sort of "make the students feel better about themselves" thing? Heck. When I was in high school, some of the advanced courses requires a 93% to get an A (my Senior year math did, which I know for a fact due to being in the preposterous position of getting an A in the class and an unsatisfactory effort grade due to an interesting loophole in the grading methodology).

Dumb down the grades much?
