How much would it take for you to voluntarily spend a year in prison? For sake of discussion, assume I could have you incarcerated in a minimum security state prison. As far as anyone knows, you're in for embezzlement. No parole or good behaviour, you have to spend 365 days behind bars. After the year, all traces of your incarceration are erased from the record and you get a check for...
How much will this cost me?
I'll do it for the giggles:2 (1.5%)
Under $100,000:7 (5.4%)
$100,000 - $250,000:17 (13.1%)
$250,000 - $500,000:17 (13.1%)
$500,000 - $1,000,000:17 (13.1%)
$1,000,000 - $5,000,000:27 (20.8%)
$5,000,000+:30 (23.1%)
No way in hell:13 (10.0%)
Total:130

Any other questions you have, you'll just have to use your imgaination and better judgement

Free food and shelter with no chance of impeding my job? SOLD!

Unless we include the variable called the "Bubba factor" in which case you'll need to pay me $100,000.

After being a guest of more than one correctional facility, I would take 12 months at a country club without breaking a sweat.

I've lived in worse conditions before but since you offered an amount that high no less than a million will do.

A thread on another forum mentioned a woman who had stolen some $250,000. She received a year in prison and, for some reason*, the court was not able to get the money back out of her. Afterwards, the woman was driving a much nicer car than she started with and the net result was that she sold a year of her life for $250k.

The obvious question became "what would be your price?" After some people mentioned that they wouldn't want the felony on their record, I modified it for here by eliminating that aspect.

*Given the third-hand account, I don't know the details

I'd do it for $200k, although I might demand more if the risk was high that I'd get boned up the poopchute by my cellmate, Big Chuck.

So did you come across a news story where someone did some time and ended up getting some money out of it?

edit: well you answered that question... Smiley: wink

The freedoms lost in a year would be a huge loss for me, considering the ages of my 4 kids. However, if you wait until they are all grown, perhaps for $5M+ since it would have to be enough to be worth my while. Anything less than 7 digits wouldn't be worth my time.

It reminded me of a recent NPR story about how some people accused of crimes have been able to pay thier way out of convicitons by contributing to charities that the prosecuting attorney patronizes.

Considering my usual lifestyle, prison wouldn't be much different. Sit in my room, read, maybe write some, go out to the yard and play some ball, go to the gym and bulk up a bit.

Having said that, yeah, I'd go in for six digits. That's at least three years of my regular wages.

Pencil me in for 250-500k. That's assuming that I'd be able to play basketball there.

If not, it'd have to be in the 500k-1 mil range.

I've worn the orange and slippers for 90, and been overnight a couple of time.

Max in county was basically a vacation. No work, no bills, no cooking, no laundry, no phone, and nobody on my *** because I wore orange.

I got plenty of exercise, a portioned diet, loads of practice at dominos, chess and poker, and more tv than I care to see.

What they don't tell you is that time for you stands absolutely still.

You have no life.

You accomplish nothing.

To the outside world, you may as well not exist.

Hearing from friends and family only increases the feeling of wasted time as they tell you all that is going on. And the ******* pricks keep on calling, oblivious to your growing hatred of their continuing lives.

Yeah, I could spend a year reading and boxing. But I may have to be put back in after I break the fingers of every person that sent me a letter "wishing me the best". ********

Sure, but just remember, most of the guys there will be six-foot-plus negroes. Apparently the whiteys tend to stick with softball or football.

It would take at least 250k. I don't want to be the biotch of some large individual who thinks my height is a sexy tease. Toss aside the fact that you're loosing a year of your life. You would still have the chance to be beaten, killed and raped. Plus, I don't know how I would feel about taking a **** in front of another man.

Works for me. I'm used to playing with a mix of both here at college. Occasionally I'm the only white guy on the court.

I should have just said that I was a 6'-11" black guy.

College Edumacated.

Well it seemed unfair to have him pay me $200,000 a year for 10 years, I figured we'd call it an even year and I'd just hang around the house :)

I'd do it for $500K or more.

The downside would be the relative lack of autonomy and separation from Mr. Ambrya. However, it is minimum security, so I would probably have plenty of opportunity to read, study, watch TV, get outdoor exercise, use a computer, etc. The food would probably suck, but oh well. And I'd probably get plenty of opportunity to visitation with my hubby, though perhaps not of the conjugal variety.

On the up side, at the end of that year, hubby and I could:

--pay off my student loans and bankroll the remainder of my education in cash
--pay cash for a much newer, much larger house and live rent-free till we retire
--invest a small amount in college savings for Ambrya 2.0 (when we start developing her, plans are being drafted at present. The amount invested would not have to be much, as it would have 18-20 years to gain interest)
--pay cash for a couple decent new cars (nothing extravagent, but right now Mr. Ambrya is driving a 1990 Camry, so an improvement doesn't have to be extravagent)
--take a nice vacation or two (we've always wanted to go to Hawaii, Europe/UK, and Australia/NZ)

I'd say all of that would be worth a year of separation, just as I think either of us would be willing to endure a year of separation if we got a job offer for half a million for a year.

It would really depend how much I needed the money. If I was broke I'd probably do it for $10k or less. I mean really, minnimum security? Oh wait a minute. I can still smoke, right, and gamble for cigerettes?
