Carte blanche for the vertically challenged?

Quote:
A judge said a 5-foot-1 man convicted of sexually assaulting a child was too small to survive in prison, and gave him 10 years of probation instead.

His crimes deserved a long sentence, District Judge Kristine Cecava said, but she worried that Richard W. Thompson, 50, would be especially imperiled by prison dangers.

For sexually assaulting a child, the judge should have tossed that f'uck in there knowing he wouldn't survive.

I looked up this Judge to try to see what her damage was and did see where she once presided over a case of cattle rustling
Quote:
On Tuesday, August 2, 2005, in Kimball County District Court, Judge Kristine R. Cecava sentenced Byron Wilke, 38 of Kimball, NE to five to eight years in the Lincoln State Correctional Facility and ordered him to pay restitution to the victim.

On May 17, 2005, Byron Wilke pled guilty to one count of Theft by Deception, a Class III Felony. Court records indicate that Wilke arranged for Jerry Gregory of Kimball, NE to wire approximately $230,000 to Alliance Cattle Company in Kansas for the purchase of 436 head of cattle. The money actually went to pay Wilke's debt to the company.
On a more serious note, a biography of her says that

She's right, you know. Just look at the damage he inflicted on someone shorter than he. Poor guy.

Yes, the Nebraska State Penitentiary is doing hard time alright.

I live about half a mile from it, and while I wouldn't want to spend any time in there, I can't see where she's coming from concerning the dangers of prison life. I don't recall ever hearing about inmates having trouble in there, although I suppose something like that might not make the news.

Seems this is the only kind of publicity our state gets anymore Smiley: banghead

I'm shorter than that guy. I guess I can use this argument to plead for probation if the occasion ever deemed it necessary.

Maybe. Apparently there are even organizations out there advocating for the vertically challenged. I hope the conviction is amended. According to the guards, they say they have shorter guys than he who are tough as nails.

Attorney general will appeal sexual assault sentence
By SCOTT BAUER / The Associated Press

The sentence of probation for a man the judge said was too short to go to prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl will be appealed by Attorney General Jon Bruning.

“This sentence is far too lenient,” Bruning said Thursday. “Anyone who sexually assaults a child deserves to live their life behind bars for awhile.”

Bruning said Thursday that his office will file the appeal within the next two weeks.

From what I've heard, child molestors simply don't survive long in prison, regardless of height.

Nah, no real need to make a whole thread about it, I don't think.

Alright, fine...the buttons are intimidating.
