Call me a softy..
I work graveyards. I watch the women that work the front desk drag their azzes into work every morning. It doesnt mater what kind of night or weekend they had .. there is something about showing up for work at zero-dark-thirty that generally puts people in a mood.
I am not involved with any of them nor want to be other than on a frendly working and profesonal basis.
I have learned a thing or two over the years though about the value of an unexpected gift .. like a flower.
More than anything .. it just brightens up the day.
Their is a Magnolia tree right outside the front door and in the spring after a good rain it bursts with buds.
They have to be the best looking and best smelling of any of the flowers .. those that grow on a tree the size of a small building anyway.
I got it in my mind one day to sneek out before I left work and make a gift of one of those buds to a female co-worker.
The reaction was wonderfull .. there was no getting arround the change in mood .. the general feeling of giving and receving.
So it wasnt roses .. it was the thought that counts.

I used to be somewhat religious with my floral deliveries to the wife. V-day, most birthdays, always anniversary, and random days in between just 'because I love you'. She always appreciated the gesture and always made a point to tell me how all the girls at work were jealous. I knew that when she recieved flowers at work she got all giddy and smiley and ****, so that alone was what made it worth every penny.

Personaly, as a guy, I don't really get the idea behind sending flowers. I mean, yeah I understand why women like them, but in the end you are sending a pile of vegetation to someone as a token of affection. Sure it might be pretty vegetation, but it'll still be compost in a fortnight.

One time back when I was a kid hauling drywall for a living my wife(future wife at the time) sent me flowers at work for my birthday. It really didnt' like it and it took every ounce of self control not to cuss her out for it when I got home. Instead I got to swallow my pride and tell her how nice it was and how pretty they were, but that I'm really not a flower guy.

Oh, almost forgot the important part!

V-day was 1 doz. long stemmed Peach Roses.
Anniversary was 2.
Birthdays were floral arrangements, always with peach roses included.
I-love-you days were floral arrangements with daisies and violets(when available).

Best flowers I ever got were at work, from my husband when he was in Iraq. They were extra special because they were on a totally random day, and he doesn't "believe in flowers." He thinks it is a silly sort of gift, so I never expected to ever get any from him. They were even orchids, which is my favorite flower - proof that he does, in fact, listen on occasion. Then they were the longest lasting cut flowers I had ever seen. They lasted like a month!

He hasn't done it since. Smiley: frown
