She said it, not I! I just feel angry that she'd treat her son like that. It would kill me inside if my mom were to ever be that way. I know he plays the tough guy and says it makes him laugh when she pulls stunts like this, but I cant help but feel sad for him. Thats his Mom you know. I never wanted it to get to the point where she degrades him like that. I just wanted her to stop trying to cause problems between the two of us, or antagonizing me and then denying when he'd confront her about it. My parents love him and he says thats all the family he needs but I cant help but think thats got to hurt somewhere inside. Ya know?

of course it hurts. No matter what its going to hurt: you and him both. But your hubby needs to stand up for himself and you to her. I hear him making comments, but I dont see him telling her under no certain circumstances is her behavior acceptable. You know if it were your mom, you would verbally kick her *** for treating him like this. Why cant he?

Unfortunately, if you get involved, you will be the scapegoat. Shes sending barbs at *you* because she knows it hurts *him*. If he can not stand up and stop this, even if it means cutting off ALL communication until or id she grows up, then this will continue the rest of your relationship

True. Very correct. I just hate to suggest cutting all contact with her. I cut contact with the woman long ago and threatened to put a restraining order on her if she called to harrass me. It would be best to do that, as long as she has a line of communication to us she's going to be like that. Why cant I have a normal MIL who's just nosey and thinks I dont keep my house clean enough or that I dont feed the DH enough?

Wow Katie I'm sorry that this is happening. But like DSD said, until and unless your husband tells his mother that if she doesn't stop her harrassment or attacks on you, he'll cut off all contact and supports you, the crappy status quo is going to continue.

Your MIL is threatening all that stuff because she knows it grabs your husband's attention, and for that moment, she knows that she's got him and you don't. Has he tried not fighting back and just saying "Sorry that you're having a hard time." That way, he acknowledges her, but doesn't respond to her. She's feeding off your guy's reactions. If you guys go bland on her, she might back off because she knows that she can't get a rise out of you.

But again, it's all on your husband to take some kind of step.

True. When he gets home I'll tell him I snooped. He's always told me not to give her anything she can use but I think they are both antagonizing each other at this point when the best line of action is to ignore her all together. We've tried being nice and offered to go to family counciling with her. She refused. You are right that she feeds off of the reactions she gets. If we ignore her totally by cutting off all contact she cant get a reaction besides "Email Blocked", or "Return to Sender" via the post.

-- My worst fear? That when we finally do get pregnant and have a child she'll go so far as to try to take it away.

I think that would be highly unlikely to tell the truth. She may try but she probably wont get anywhere.

Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law

The worst person I know
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
She worries me so

Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
If she leave us alone
We would have a happy home

Sent from down below
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law

Sin should be her name
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
To me they are about the same

Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
Everytime I open my mouth
Then she tries to put me out
How could she stoop so low
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law

Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
I come home with my pay
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
She ask me what I made
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law

She thinks her advice is a constitution
If she would leave that should be the solution
And don't come back no more
My mother-in-law, mother-in-law.
