Baby Day?Follow

At this time, I don't think it's real labor...

She's had about 7 contractions total over the last month...this morning was her strongest one. They have not started a rhythym yet. She has spent most of the day in bed today, since she doesn't feel well.

I'm thinking that it might happen soon though...she got a HUGE burst of energy yesterday, and today she's in bed...i'm thinking her body is starting the process...

time will tell. until then i guess.

how far away from the hospital were you DSD?

10 minutes away. I was told not to come in until the contractions were 3 minutes apart and I couldnt talk during them. When I got there I was dialated at 5cm. Within 40 minutes though I went straight to 10. I was supposed to have drugs but I went too fast, or so they say Smiley: mad

See, we are 45 mins away...so we will need to judge things a little different...i figure if they hit 30 mins apart, we should get on the road...just depnds on how fast she is going...

Nice job with a short hospital stay :) I'll let my wife know that it IS possible.

First babies take forever Frakmeister. It's the next one that you will want to get to the hospital quickly for. Once the contractions are about 10mins apart or less, head in.

Do as you please, but that's my opinion from experience. Each one comes faster and faster, but the first takes forever.

That's what's fun about playing the law of averages :) You get to try to guess when the best time is!

I have no children yet so obviously I don't -really- know, but I will refuse a C-section at all costs. I mean, if my or my babies life is in danger, I will certainly reconsider. But! I had my gallbladder out two years ago, and it was horrid. You have no idea just how many activities you use your abdominal muscles for until they get cut open. My husband had to help me get up and down for the better part of a week, and that includes the toilet. My sister-in-law was dead set on a C-section for some weird reason. I showed her my tiny little tummy scars and said you know? That little bit of cutting hurt like hell. She didn't listen to me though. Silly sister-in-law.

HAHAHA! I wouldn't bank on that. I woke up to my water breaking at quarter past one in the morning, got to the hospital an hour later, was pushing by 8am and she was born at 8:45ish.

Or if her water breaks, then you did to get in right away because of the risk of contamination.

Like DSD, I stayed home until I was about dilated to 5. Got to the hospital and I previously had my doctor authorize pain medication so once I was there, the nurses looked at my record and I got my meds. Unfortunately, the meds slowed my labor WAY down. By 12 hours. And for some reason my water wouldn't break so the doc had to do it when I was at 10.

and I woke up at 8am in the morning thinking something wasnt right, only to have my water break, and my son was born 7 1/2 hours later. Not long at all.

In both of your cases, a 45min trip to the hospital would not have put you in danger of delivering in the car.

That's all I'm saying. My wife prefers to wait out most of the labour pains in her own home. She hates the hospital and only wanted to go there to get the 'business done'.

For my last baby, we got her to the hospital and she delivered within 45mins of arrival.

Whatever. In the time it will take his wife to have that baby, my cousins will have had four and impregnated some six other women on the side.

Did they at least give it to you "to go"?

I have a vivid memory of the moment when the nurse leaned over, looked right in my eyes and said, "Honey, you're not going to get the epidural in time, but it's ok, I know you can have this baby!"

I started crying right then.

Later, I peed on her hand. Yay!

Smiley: lol Tare, while I share your misery, I also feel so much better knowing I wasnt the only one who didnt get her drugs.

I told my Dr every time I saw him I damn well better get drugs the moment I entered the hospital. He promised promised promised it would happen. When I finally got in he checked me out and said "Listen, you're only at 5cm. If I give you drugs now, it's only going to wear off by the time the serious labor starts. So Im going to hold off for just a few. When the pain gets to the point where you dont think you can handle it if it got any worse, you just holler and Ill drug you up." After picking a few choice swear words I agreed. 40 minutes later I decided if I had to deal with it any more I was going to kill someone. The nurse checkedme out, left and whispered to the other nurse in the corner of the room, pointing at me. I grew panicky, thinking something was wrong. Both nurses came to check me out. The elder looked at me and said "Honey, I have good news and bad news. The good news is, you're 10cm and ready to push. The bad news is, you're 10cm and ready to push. m sorry but you're going to have to do this the natural way. Its way too late for drugs.

Now, if only my DR had listened to me Smiley: banghead

I may be weird, but I refuse to have an epidural. The idea of a needle going into my spine is less apealing than any labor pains.

I say that now, however, having never experianced it. I figure I'll take the class just in case, heh.

I insisted to my doctor that he put the authorization for my pain medications in my medical record so even if he couldn't be reached whenever I went into labor the authorization was already there and the anethesiologist could wheel in the happy cart. Every nurse I talked to when I got the hospital kept saying they had to wait for the doctor until I literally took the chart out of their hand, flipped through it and showed them the authorization. After that, it was good to go.
