I work for a non-profit organization who hasn't had a budget increase approved in five years. As health insurance costs keep going up, as well as required increases in salaries, they had to cut costs somewhere. Guess where?
They're letting me go at the end of the month but paying me through August. While this might sound not terrible to some, the employment situation is horrendous at the moment and I'm going to take anything I can get immediately in order to give me as long as possible to find another full time job with benefits. No more school for now, and I may have to have the husband drop out as well in order to work full time. We're already living paycheck to paycheck, so this is fairly scary. Mostly I'm worrying about September first, when we no longer have health insurance. I grew up that way and it was very scary sometimes and I don't want that for my baby.
Anyway, I start revamping my resume tomorrow, and I'm meeting with HR to find out what options I have there (since I'm technically employed by the university, I may have some rights as far as priorties in employment, but I'm not sure). All in all, life just got a whole lot more frightening.
