I wish they showed more known powers from the game like limits and materia.
Meh. The materia was mainly a sidebar in AC for Kadaj and co. to up their powers. As for Limits, anyone who actually fought did use various limits. In the single fight in the church, Tifa used three of four. You just had to watch closer as some lost their flashy PSX graphics and were more part of a real combo.
As for the unrealistic aspect it's been said again and again. it's based on a game and at the end of said game you were (generally) lvl 60+, most of those who enjoyed the game going all out to 99.
But then you have the 'but why Can't cloud win at the beginning?' principle. To that I'd say an affect of the Geostigma. In game terms I'd say the stigma reduced his strength or level and as he fights it and is then eventually healed he relevels. His battles become noticeably easier. He gets hurt less, his enemies take more damage, etc.
As for Sephiroth, the final point of the game was that Cloud and Sephiroth were connected and that it would ultimately fall to Cloud to kill him. At the end battle, Cloud automatically reaches his potential, acquiring Omnislash whether or not you get it yourself. At that point he becomes stronger than Sephiroth, who you have to remember never really exceeded lvl 50.
Or you could look at it from the film perspective. Kadaj and his brothers were Jenova born spirits (clearer in the Japanese version than American)and when Kadaj absorbs Jenova and starts the catalyst, he is incomplete - only at 1/3 of his full power, meaning the resulting Sephiroth is also weaker. add to that being 'newborn' again and it might make a bit more sense.
As for Cloud surviving the gunshot wound? Meh, he fell in the Lifestream and came out more coherent than ever before. Wherever he goes, Aeris' spirit is still watching him. The 'cure' for Geostigma when it first erupted was a rather convincing replay of Aeris' Healing Rain Limit, down to the faint green glow. Also, there is the Mako infusion, Jenova cell mix that seemed to make deadly wounds repairable, such as being impaled through the chest by the Masamune, falling a stupidly long distance and landing on your head (probably) and yes, shot.
And then again we could just say Fantasy. Rufus was in a building that got shot to hell in the game but is unscathed in the film, aside from his Geostigma. Go figure.
There was also a question of the vocie acting? It was..s passable. coulda done with a bit more tweaking on a few of them, but the main problem was in the translation. I mean what the hell was with that 'dilly dally, shilly shally' crap? They seemed more interested in keeping the rhythm and lip synch than actualy making sense... (the original version was something like 'always drifting, always drifting')
...Yes, I pay too much attention and anaylse too much. I liked the game, still do. One of the best RPGs I've played and the film did a decent job.
On a small note on the game tself.. did anyone ever figure out if the Cursed Ring could actually be made more useful? (If you don't know what the ring was or how to get it... for shame.)
