So, any of you know anything about cars? When it comes to computers I can fix them fairly well, but I know next to nothing about how a T-drive automatic transmission from a 92 oldsmobile cutlas sierra works. You can stop laughing at my crappy car now.
Here's the deal. Up until yesterday it was working just fine. THe only issue had been an occasional tendancy to stall out while reversing, whihc has been a problem since I aquired the car from it's previous owner.
Today, the car abruptly no longer wishes to accelerate. I press on the gas, the engine revs up, but the car moves forward very sluggishly, and seems like it either wants to stay in that initial gear, or jump up to the highest gear. Top speed attainable is 60mph, and the engine tachometer, even if I am flooring the pedal is not getting anywhere close to the top of the curve.
Here's where things get tricky. the Car has P R D with a square around it, D 2 and 1 gears on the automatic shifter. the problem is in D with a square around it, which is the one I usually use. If I move it over to just the regular D, the transmission issue goes most of the way away. Something is still wrong, but it is bairly noticable.
After the problem started, I took it in today to change the oil out, air cleaner, fuel filter have the fuel injectors purged and filled the engine up with higher octane gas just in case it was a bad tank. No luck. The transmission fluid levels were not low. nor was the oil.
Now this problem showed up overnight, so i'm thinking somehting is either broken, or stuck. The car still runs and shifts, so i'm guessing it's not the gears or the clutch plates in the transmission, so I'm hopeing it's somehting in the valve body, maybe a spring or a stuck check ball? But like i said, with these I have very little clue what I am doing, so if anyone has any insights I would be verymuchso interested in hearing them. I'm taking it into the shop on tuesday, and I'd likie to have at least an idea of what might possibly be wrong so that when they come out and tell me "yeah you need a whole new trnasmission" I can at least be prepared. Thanks in advance
