I get a telemarketer calling here every day, for sure. Often, two times or more a day.
Grrrr.
Dealing with this is quite simple but if you dont handle it precisely it doesnt work.
Tele-marketers and Tele-research. Telemarketers - Selling goods or services. Simple enough.
Tele-Research - Asking your opinion. Whether it be on Politics, Consumer Products or anything else.
What is important to note is that DNC (Do Not Call Laws) only affects Telemarketers.
They in no way effect Tele-research, mainly because politicians rely heavily on telephone surveys for public opinion. So they made sure to put clause in DNC laws to exempt survey and market research.
So how do you stop both? It is simple really. Tell the person on the other end of the phone either:
'Take me off your list'
Make sure you get a positive response from the person indicating that you have been removed. Thank them for there time, move on.
Sometimes you have to word it differently. Let them know you are on the DNC list, ask them if there is a way to remove your number from there calling list etc.
Important: Swearing, telling them 'dont call again', hanging up, screaming threats etc never work. You will be coded as a refusal but the next time they dial through the sample your number will still be there so you
will get called again. Make sure your number is removed.
If you do get repeat calls If this doesnt work you can do the following
1) Ask for name of interviewer, company, address, contact info and report them through the proper channels.
2) Purchase a "Call Blocker" (should only be 20$) or inquire if your telephone provider provides this service. Simply it intercepts any anonymous 1-800 calls and asks them to provide name and reason for calling before it will connect the call.
Some call blockers have features where you can manually enter number and it will block it forever more.
Hope that helps!
