I know, how typically Canadian of me.

Anyone watching the playoffs? Predictions? I am, as always, cheering for the Oilers but I know (deep down) it will all be for naught in the end.

I guess I'll cheer for Carolina, since it's my Americahome.

You are from Edmonton? OMG LETS CYBORZ?!?!!?!?. Yes, indeed Go Oilers! The news paper is actually giving them a legitimate shot this year, which I defninately agree with. But to make it all the way I will have to go with Calgary, mainly because it all comes down to goaltending. I think the only team that will challenge them is Dallas. Over in the east I think Jersey, Philly and Carolina all have a good chance. Of course, Ottawa has the most skill offensivly but their two-way play has been awful in the ending weeks of the season.

Upsets: I have Oilers and San Jose. For the East, possibly Montreal or Tampa Bay -- whoever is scheduled for playing Ottawa, naw mean.

Finals: Calgary Vs. Jersey -- Smiley: flames in 6.

I'm not a fan in the sense that I follow the sport or know the players very well until playoff time. There is such a difference once the playoffs hit that it is really only then that I start watching, but then I can watch any of it. It would help if I got up to Denver and caught more Av's games live, because there's such a huge contrast between seeing it live and on television, as well.

My only prediction is that there will be drinking.

I think that right now my pick to win it all is going to have to be Calgary or Detroit. Calgary, just for the fact that Kiprusoff is a f[/black]ucking beast in the playoffs. And on a side note Sidney Crosby is now the youngest player to ever score 100 points in a season.

F[black]uck you all I'm a Penguins fan, we had nothing to root for so that's a big deal for us.

well this is the year that i finally stopped being a bruins fan. i have officially disowned them until they get new onwership.

that being said, i think detroit has a good shot but i'm afraid that goaltending might let them down. calgary is a team built for the playoffs, so they can definitely win it all. dallas is tough and have great goaltending.

in the east, i'd be very afraid to play the devils. they have been on a tear, and i would never bet heavily against brodeur.

my guess, calgary vs. new jersey. flames in 6

Got tickets for this weekend, though the date isn't set yet. I figured I had better see the first round, since the Flyers are likely not going to make it to the second. Who knows if Peter the Groin will even play. It pains me to say this because I hate them with a passion, but I expect to see New Jersey make it out of the east.

Even as Stanley Cup champions we receive little to no respect. The Tampa Bay Lightning are still a legitimate contender even going is on the 7th or 8th seed in the East. We have 5 skaters with 30+ goals and one of, if not the, best offensive defenseman in the leauge. If our tenders and powerplay show up, watch out.

That being said, I do not want to play Ottawa. Regardless of their play in these last few weeks, they are a team to be feared. Their offensive prowess is unmatched. Their defense is top notch and, if Hasek is healthy, they will finally have the one key piece missing from playoff years past: a tried and tested playoff goaltender. If Hasek is hurt and they have to rely on Emery they might take a fall in the first or second round.

New Jersey right now is just deadly. With a win tonight and some losses from their divison rivals (Rangers and Flyers), the Devils will have home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs, a very dangerous thing for their 6th seeded opponent.

The Sabres may be the dark horse every one is looking past. They are the only team in the East right now with a padlock on their position. No matter what happens tonight, they will be 4th place. They have had time to prepare for their potential opponent longer than any other team. With great goaltending and excellent speed, they will be a threat in the postseason.

From the East: Devils

The west is a little different. Top to bottom are 8 of the best teams in the league. Nashville started off the season on a tear and finally leveled out about midway through the season. However, they are still a powerful opponent. They can beat you with speed. Their breakout from their own zone is poetry in motion.

Detroit is first for one reason and one reason only: their division is an utter disgrace. Thanks to the new rules set in the offseason, they had the pleasure of playing the St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets a whopping 8 games a piece. That's 24 games and 48 points. They took advantage of this, but, they are still a competitor. With bob knows how many years of combined playoff experience on their roster, they will still be a threat.

Calgary is by far and away the most solid team in the conference. Not especially excelling in one area, they are the true all around team: goaltending, defense and offense.

From the west: Calgary

Final: Devils in 7

And Buffy, I know your pain. The first 10 years for the Lightning were almost unbearable. You have to look for a silver lining in the season just so you have a reason to watch next year. So congrats to Crosby. He and Ovechkin are just amazing players to watch. When the Capitals came down to TB, I actually cheered when Ovechkin scored a goal. That guy is good.

Yes, I am a hockey fan even though we can't put ice outside for longer than 30 seconds here.

You're totally crazy. There's no way that the best team in the league on the powerplay and the third best on the penalty kill has any shot to even win a game. Having the best road record in the NHL far above all other teams should not even enter the equation. The fact that the Red Wings have the second best offense and the second best defense shouldn't hold any weight. Losing only 5 games in the past 29 should not even be a consideration. It's not like Steve Yzerman has been on a tear lately.

In case anyone hasn't been watching this year, the game is a lot different. GAA is far above the 03-04 stats. Thus, goals are pretty easy to come by. Goalie equipment is smaller. The trap is a thing of the past. The days of a goalie controlling a playoff series is going to be a rarity.

Oh and btw, Kiprusoff, while an amazing goalie no doubt, has played in 74 games this year (the most by any playoff goalie). Fatigue should definitely be a consideration especially with the arduous playoff schedule.

Thanks for linking us to some retarded statistics that don't matter. Do you know why? 'Cause Detroit is in the EASIEST division in the league. They played Chicago 8 times and St. Louis. I am not saying they're a bad team because that would be just silly of me. I'm saying, they're opponent the "Oil" are in a much tougher division. They played Vancouver, Colorado, Minnesota(all teams with over 85 points) and of course Calgary eight times.

Detroit is old. They have tons of skill, but they really have not been tested this season. All I am saying is I wouldn't been betting the farm on them. Plus, the East is a ***** this year.

Thanks for linking nothing at all. You make a persuasive argument.

I didn't know consistently winning against every team in the league made you bad. How about this: the Oilers have been tested this year and they barely made the playoffs. That must mean they are a good team?

Detroit has also beaten the Rangers, NJ, and Dallas 4 times. They have 14 wins out of 21 games against the Oilers' Northwest division.

How about this stat: The Oilers have won a whopping 5 games out of 12 against Chicago, St. Louis, and Columbus. For such an easy division, why do the Oilers have such a poor record against it? Did you ever think that the reason those 3 teams have such bad records is because they have to play the Wings and Nashville so much?

With around 16 OT wins this year (as well as a bunch of shootout victories), Columbus has ruled in the extra period. They are really exciting to watch when the game is close. Give them a few years and I think they will be really competitive.
