They knew all the right people
They took all the right pills
They threw outrageous parties
They paid heavenly bills
There were lines on the mirror, lines on her face
She pretended not to notice she was caught up in the race
Out every evening until it was light
He was too tired to make it she was too tired to fight about it

Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind
Life in the fast lane
Life in the fast lane
Everything all the time
Life in the fast lane

Now I'm all worked up. Who's going to let me snort a huge rail off the boobies?

Just in case anyone was curious, current U.S. federal highway design standards, which have been in force since 1956 reccomend at least a slight curve every 5 miles to prevent drivers from falling asleep on excessivly straight road sections. The straight sections also are designed to be used as runways in the event of an airliner emergancy.

Good luck getting this useless fact out of your brain ever!

We have enough land to build our roads straight.
They are straight you could of fooled me. The interstates are pretty good, but once you are off them the roads are not all that straight in my neck of the woods. I have been down many state high ways, city streets. and rural roads. Very seldom are they straight for long. Arkansas is even worst their state highways are so curved I swear I am driving in circles.

Car and Driver Magazine seems to disagree with Nobby about the Corvette Z06

Quote:
On paper, the Z06 Corvette is the best car here. It accelerates as quickly as the 911 Turbo through the quarter and wastes both the Porsche and Ferrari at speeds above 120 mph. How about 0 to 150 mph in 17.7 seconds? That’s up there in Ford GT territory, if not as stupid fast as a McLaren F1. The Z06 has the most grip at 1.01 g and the best braking performance. On an autobahn, it was still accelerating while the Ferrari was topped out in sixth gear at 186 mph. Around our road course, it was an easy victor, 1.7 seconds quicker than the Porsche on a near-76-second lap. It does all this for about a third of the Ferrari’s price. The Z06 is the best performance value in the world, period.

Not bad for an American car eh? Speed, handling, and top end. Smiley: oyvey

Taking a curving bend at 50 with the steering wheel pushing gently back into your hand as you drop down a gear to power out is what driving's about.

Yep I used to drive a 1978 Datsun 360,4 speed that thought it was was a sport car and jeep when we went camping in the High Sierra's. I miss driving it, but don't drive anymore for your safety, since my medicines and driving don't mix.

I hate curves in american cars now and have to close my eyes when my daughter's drove her SUV on the clover leaf off ramps around here. Only accident I was ever in as an passenger was in HS and the driver took an off ramp too fast.

She had it only a few months and the engine died on her so it went back to the dealer ship. Since her other veicals are a Van for work and 1995 FireHawk, I bug her to learn how to drive a manual, and trade in the FireHawk, since it spends more time needing repairs then it's on the road.

1992 marked the final year for third generation platform. Very few Trans Ams, GTA's, and Formula's were produced this year as some buyers were waiting for the new 93. In 1992, a company by the name of Street Legal Performance(SLP), modified a factory built Formula into what they called the "Firehawk". When you were to purchase your car, you would specify that you wanted this limited option. Then the Formula you selected, was sent out to SLP to be modified. No two cars they produced were alike, for they all were special orders. SLP had anticipated making 250 of these screaming machines, but only 27 were ordered. Out of those only 25 were ever built.

Only 25 ever made, she should sell it :O

And another sig-worthy line!

I'm stunned that we have a thread here on American cars, and the main gripe is handling. Did I miss something (again)?

There's American cars, past, "present", F-u-t-u-r-e, and then there's whatever other nationality flavor of the month/year/week. There's *an* Italian car or two, at best, British "motors", Japanase "auto-moblies", but nothing like classic quintessential American cars. Why is that?
