FREDERICK, Maryland (AP) -- Hood College is reviewing its homecoming rules after a lesbian was crowned king, a college official said.

Jennifer Jones, the 21-year-old senior who beat out three men for the honor, said the crowning was a positive step for the private liberal arts college.

The look on peoples faces when she a)was nominated and b)won must have been priceless. Smiley: lol

Rid-fUcking-diculous.

I could maybe see where some whacked out leftie would fight for the recipient of a transexual surgery, but a pUssy is still a pUssy.

I harldy think that 1/3 of less than 10% is a "positive step". Its more like they got the entire chapter of the ***** against DiCks to come out and vote.

I doubt there were that many lesbians enrolled, but who knows.

I'm guessing it was a joke that everyone was in on; or the male candidates just sucked.

Could it possibly be less about equality and more about students not really seeing "College Homecoming King" as a hallowed and revered position and so thought it'd be good for giggles to vote for "Jennifer Jones"?

It's a former female-only college. To say there's a strong feminist trend would be an understatement.

Quote:
It was only the second annual homecoming for the school. Men started attending Hood in 1971 but the school didn't become fully coeducational until 2003 when men were permitted to live on campus for the first time.

Maybe they did suck, and one of them was voted Queen?

It's not a positive step if everyone pushes it and it's not true, that's why I was glad when that gay cowboy movie didn't win best picture or actor because Phillip Seymour Hoffman > Any gay cowboy...

I'd hardly call 3% of the potential votes indicative of a strong anything movement.

3% of the potential turned out to be 37%+ of the actual. Neither number means particularly much, though.

Hood College is still a chick school. :)

Living in MD myself, I've stopped being suprised about anything that happens here. We're the place that allows a county to ban Santa Claus from a Christmas parade for political correctness reasons, allows our ancient Comptroller to ogle female young aides in public, and built ugly-*** Ravens stadium right in front of beautiful Camden Yards.

The list goes on but those are some of the non-partisan ones I can think of off the top of my head.

For further amusement, check out http://www.hood.edu/ . As the pictures flash by, keep a mental count of the number of women shown versus the number of men.

Though the college is no longer segregated by sex, it is certainly disproportionate.

I also went to a small college that was founded as a womens college and then absorbed a Pharmacy college (99% dudes). When I came in as a freshmen there were 3 girls dorms and 1 mixed dorm. Disproportionate seems like an understatement after you went to the first party on campus.

I don't doubt it for a minute. I was just saying I doubt this 'election' has any social relevance.

I wouldn't move so fast. Chances of another lesbian winning next year are probably pretty small.

Towson had a guy elected Homecoming Queen years ago. Not sure under what name it went by back then, but I don't think it was Normal at the time.

And no it wasn't my ex, though she is a student at Towson Univ. last I heard.

Jonwin says it was Towson State College at the time.

I was more amused by the upcoming events: "stargazing", "fabulous women" and "near eastern mounds".

Colleges actually have homecomming kings/queens? And anyone cares about it?
