I thought it was more along the lines of calling them chicks. Not necessarily derrogatory, just kind of nick-namish.

In Australia girls still get called 'birds' or 'sheilas'. But 'chicks' is mainly used.

Where is the origin of calling girls chicks and birds?

Where is the connection? When I see big 'ol jubblies and a fertile mound, I ain't thinking about fluffy yellow peepers or feathery flappy tweeters. I don't be thinkin' of a meowin' cat or a pregnant dog. I be thinkin' bouts teh sex.

I think its for everyones better we call them ladies.

A dead cat on the German Baltic island of Rügen has been found carrying the H5N1 bird flu virus. The finding confirms the results of a Dutch study in 2005 showing cats can catch the virus, and suggests they may need to be included in efforts to control the spread of the virus in animals.

Of course one could just keep their cat inside.

Last week my hubby got us a boxed set of Hitchcock movies. One of them is The Birds.

Maybe it was the bird flu that made those birds go all crazy!

I was speaking to a guy yesterday who attended a conference where a bunch of doctors were presenting the real dangers of a flu pandemic. To make a long story short, if you want to live, be prepared to have enough food and potable water to live for something like 3 months because if a pandemic breaks down, no one will go to work, and therefore no stores will be open, water sanitation facilities will not be operating, etc.

Lot's of nasty.
