Quote:
"Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don’t like them and won’t watch them ... Because they’re so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like, try not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss-and-cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won ... So if only to hasten the arrival of the day they’re done, when we can move on to March Madness — for God’s sake, let the games begin."
Now, I’ll agree that for the most part, the winter Olympics are pretty boring. I do enjoy watching some of the skiing and snowboarding. The curling, figure skating, speed skating, and the rest is all pretty dull. However, even if I find some of it dull I won’t deny the fact that many of them are excellent athletes and do things I could only hope to try.
That said, if some white analyst had said something about the summer Olympics being a laugh because they look like an NAACP convention, we’d have never heard the end of it. It would have been broadcasted all over every news station, said analyst would be disgraced and either suspended from his job or, more likely, flat out fired.
Is the reason we heard so little about this because of the predominance of liberal media? Or is it simply because having this come from the whitest black man in America makes it hard to take offense? Or, is it simply that no one bothers to subscribe to, or watch HBO anymore?
