Me and my girlfriend, we are thinking of moving to the US for some years, and we would really like to settle in New York. Does anyone know of good job search web pages (especially jobs for university graduates) and/or of web pages of NY accommodation brokers? Anyone moved to New York recently?

Any help is appreciated, as it's a bit difficult to search efficiently when you're currently living in Europe...

Thanks in advance!

Is one of you a US citizen or Permanent Resident first off? I ask because you can't just pick up and move to the US and work.

That said, I hear monster.com isn't too bad.

The NYTimes Job market is the main place to look for jobs in the NYC area, with the online hot jobs and monster.com the next two, headhunters will advertise in all.

For housing the NY Times real estate is also the best first stop. I tell everyone moving to the NY area, save lots of money and live in the outer boroughs, you will get 2x the apartment at 1/2 the price. Many people will insist that they want the ambiance of living in Manhattan, but that comes at a cost. I recommend neighborhoods like Forest Hills, Williamsburg, and Long Island City for better rents in a decent neighborhood, a short subway ride from Manhattan.

Note that many online real estate sites I have seen will advertise cheap Manhattan apartments that do not exist just to get you talking to their reps.

Monster.com is all i can really think of, or check the classifieds in the paper when you come here.

Congrats - New York is a great state!

Very expensive to live, though. Where you planning on going to? New York City? Somewhere upstate? And what kind of work do you do?

Upstate new york is a very peaceful place to live, i've heard.

I live in central new york, and ever since carrier air conditioning moved, the economy around here hasn't been the same, but with "Destiny USA", they are supposed to be bringing back a lot more jobs.

Yet to see any proof of that. So if you are considering areas in new york state still, try upstate.

It's just plans yet, no date set, trying to get a green card... may take several months, if it works at all, but we're quite excited 'bout the idea of starting all over. That's why I want to collect information, we haven't decided on anything yet. Smiley: smile

DV8 is awesome because she has the charm of Katies sexy avatars (only better) and she can scrape up a decent post from time to time (unlike katie).
