5. Pearl Jam - Alive

The song's mantra "I'm still alive" isn't a proud declaration of survival, but rather a lament that he's still alive.

4. This Land is Your Land / You Are My Sunshine

This Land wrote:
In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.

Sunshine wrote:
I'll always love you and make you happy,
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me and love another,
You'll regret it all some day:

3. REM - The One I Love

Not a love song, but a song about using people ("a simple prop to occupy my time").

2. Police - Every Breath You Take

Stalking and a failed marriage.

1. Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA

Despite Ronald Reagan's opinion...

Any others?

I thought you were going to cite most "Mis-heard" songs

"Me Ears are Alight" by Desmond Decker

or Madonna's "Isla Bonita" with the line "Young boy with eyes like potatoes"

And of course
"Jo Jo was a man who thought he was a woman
but Lucy knew it wouldn't last"

People think that J. Hendrix said "Scuse me while I kiss the sky" when he really says "Scuse me while I kiss this guy".

If you're havin' trouble with the high school head,
He's givin' you the blues
You wanna graduate, but not in his bed,
Here's whatcha gotta do:
Pick up the phone, I'm always home,
Call me anytime
Just ring: three-six-two-four-three-six-oh,
I lead a life of crime!

REFRAIN
Dirty Deeds - Done To Sheep!
Dirty Deeds - Done To Sheep!
Dirty Deeds - Done To Sheep!
(Dirty deeds and they're Done To Sheep)
(Dirty deeds and they're Done To Sheep)

You got problems in your life of love,
You got a broken heart
He's double-dealin' with your best friend,
That's when the teardrops start, wailer
Pick up the phone, I'm here alone,
I'll make a social call
Come right in, we'll get 'round him,
We'll have ourselves a ball! Eh!

REFRAIN
Dirty Deeds - Done To Sheep!
Dirty Deeds - Done To Sheep!
Dirty Deeds - Done To Sheep!
(Dirty deeds and they're Done To Sheep) Oh...
(Dirty deeds and they're Done To Sheep)

SOLO

If you got a lady and you want her gone,
Butcha ain't got the guts
She keeps naggin' atcha night 'n' day,
Enough to drive ya nuts
Pick up the phone, leave her alone,
It's time ya made a stand
For a fee, I'm happy to be,
Your backdoor man! Hey!

REFRAIN
Dirty Deeds - Done To Sheep!
Dirty Deeds - Done To Sheep!
Dirty Deeds - Done To Sheep!
(Dirty deeds and they're Done To Sheep) Yeah...
(Dirty deeds and they're Done To Sheep)
Concrete shoes... cyanide... T.N.T.... Done To Sheep!
Ooh! neckties... contracts... high voltage! Done To Sheep!
(Dirty Deeds) Do anything you want me to! (Done To Sheep!)
(Dirty Deeds) Dirty Deeds! Dirty Deeds!
Done To Sheep!
Yah-rawr!

Sort of the anti- to the misunderstood song, but "Puff the Magic Dragon" is not about marijuana. Honest. Stop thinking you found something clever and go back to congratulating yourself on that clever deduction that Shaggy must really be a stoner.

I'm sure it was all just a big cosmic coincidence that they happened to name Lycergic Acid's acronym to match up with his childhood drawing.

ON that note "Happiness is a Warm Gun" was written about a magazine cover that had a guy holding a rifle.

Manfred Mann didn't write it, Bruce Springsteen did. The "definitive version" is a cover.

But Manfred Mann also covered "Quinn the Eskimo" so all is forgiven.

Come all without...
Come all within...

Not actually all in one song... AC/DC is renowned by the nintendo generation for being the first (and still only) band to write a second set of lyrics to one of their songs that could only be described as a satiristic mockery...

Original chorus line:
"Dirty deeds! Done dirt cheap!"

Satire chorus line:
"Dirty Deeds! Done with sheep,
Dirty Deeds! Little Bo Peep!"

If I get bored later i might find the lyrics online or maybe write them out by hand... this satire "AC-DC - Dirty Deeds (Done With Sheep).mp3 can be readily found on Kazaa Lite K++ 2.4.3 or possibly another p2p network

And what is up with Uncle Kracker's "Follow Me"? The song's lyrics are so vague that i'm not sure if anyone actually KNOWS whether he is talking about being in love with a married woman or if he's talking about being a drug addiction...

"And I'll swim through your veins like a fish in the sea..."

Sounds like heroin... And if you listen to the song thinking that way, it ACTUALLY ALL MAKES SENSE... but do we all rule him off as a crack fiend?
