Question for the co-habitating malesFollow

#27 Feb 07 2006 at 9:15 AM Rating: Good
No no, actually on one of those silly military wife boards we got into the conversation of who does what at the house. I had heard all the women's points of views but I wanted the males point of views.

Ok second question for those who BOTH work.

Who does the brunt of the house work, you or you're wife? Do you share it 50/50?

We basicly share it 50/50. every other week we do a total house cleanup. inbetween those times she straightens out the place or shoots me the stink eye while she is helping her daughter with homework.

I do:
Laundry 90% of the time
cook 95% of the time. He cooks on weekends
Sweep, vaccum, mop 100%
Mow the lawn
Clean bathrooms
Food shop

He does
dishes 80% of the time
cleans the kitchen 70% of the time
Clears the driveway after snowing

Weekends we tend to do a massive cleaning together. Each of us gravitates to certain rooms and just clean. I basically keep the house in "tidy" mode throughout the week but we overhaul the place for the upcoming week. Then it's whoever gets to a chore first.

When the time's crunched, it's whoever does the chore because that person just can't stand the state of cleanliness for a specific room/object.

During the years when I've been married or co-habiting.

Whichever one of us was home when the work needed doing, we did it.

About the only strict divides were gardening (I enjoy it, they didn't) and ironing (Nobody but me irons my shirts properly)

Now I'm single, it gets done when it needs doing (eventually)

This is how you get your man to do all the busywork associated with domestic living. Give that mo' fo' nachos in bed.

Due to Elnes having fibro and cfs 99.99 percent of ANYTHING done here is done by me.
Its one of the reasons the house is terribly cluttered and the dirty dishes outnumber the clean.

Depends on whether or not she's working at the time. If she's not working, she pretty much does everything except pay bills and any around the house maintenance. If she is working it becomes a matter of who it's easier for at the time...she mostly does the laundry though, since I don't seem to do it the "proper" way. I'm not quite sure how you can mess up laundry, but I think it has something to do with fabric softener (no, I don't shrink things).

In terms of cooking, she's a vegetarian since birth, I'm a well known slayer of furry animals, so we kinda just cook for ourselves. Occasionally she'll make me dinner when she's not working, she doesn't have problems cooking meat or anything, just doesn't enjoy eating it.

Cleaning...well that's something we both need to do more often I think. Unfortunately for me, my apartment is all tile floors, and the grout between the tile is a ***** to deal with. Spending hours with a toothbrush scrubbing between tiles is no fun, but unfortunately necessary. Oh, and she walks the dog like 90% of the time, but it was her dog afterall.
